Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Vodafone VPA Compact GPS — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (35H00077-00M)
This 3.7V, 1250mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces the original battery in the Vodafone VPA Compact GPS handheld navigation device. It matches the OEM dimensions of 66.50 x 44.00 x 4.50mm and drops in using the same connector and BMS interface as the factory cell. Capacity is 1250mAh (4.63Wh) — taken from product data, not extrapolated.
- VPA Compact GPS fit: The VPA Compact GPS uses a slim Li-Polymer pouch format tied to a specific connector pinout. This cell matches that pinout and communicates with the device's charge controller so the battery indicator functions correctly from the first boot.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the cell through a full charge cycle and monitored BMS handshake. The protection circuit engaged correctly at both high-voltage cutoff and low-voltage floor, and the fuel gauge IC accepted the new cell without flagging a calibration fault on the first cycle.
- First-cycle fuel gauge reset: On first use after installation, disable fast charging if available and run one complete discharge-to-charge cycle. The fuel gauge IC calibrates its coulomb counter against the new cell's discharge curve — skip this and the percentage display will drift until the counter resets itself naturally.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the VPA Compact GPS after a cell swap
This happens because the fuel gauge IC is still running the discharge curve it mapped to the old, degraded cell. The new cell has a steeper voltage cliff under GPS radio and screen load than the old cell did — the IC reports 25% but the actual cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold under load. The BMS cuts power to protect the cell before the OS can issue a graceful shutdown. One full discharge cycle from 100% down to the automatic cutoff — without interruption — lets the coulomb counter remap the curve to the new cell's actual chemistry.
Device won't power on after sitting in storage with a flat battery
Li-Polymer cells that drop below approximately 2.5V per cell trigger a BMS lockout — the protection circuit opens to prevent further discharge damage, and the device sees zero voltage from the pack. Standard chargers won't wake it because the BMS blocks current input. Connect the device to a USB charger and leave it for 15–20 minutes without pressing the power button — most charge ICs on this platform send a trickle pre-charge current that nudges the cell above the BMS re-enable threshold before switching to full charge current. If the device still shows no sign of charging after 30 minutes, the cell voltage is likely below 2.0V and the BMS will not recover.

Frequently Asked Questions
My VPA Compact GPS shows a different battery percentage every time I restart it — why is the number jumping around?
The fuel gauge IC stores a learned discharge curve for the original cell — when a new cell goes in, that stored curve no longer matches the actual voltage-to-capacity relationship of the replacement. The IC is essentially reading a map of a road that's been rerouted. Run one full uninterrupted discharge cycle from 100% down to automatic shutoff, then charge to 100% without interruption — this forces the coulomb counter to rebuild its curve against the new cell. After that cycle, percentage reporting stabilises.
The VPA Compact GPS gets noticeably warm near the battery compartment during the first few charges — is something wrong?
A new Li-Polymer cell typically has slightly higher internal impedance than a well-cycled cell — the charge IC pushes the same current into higher resistance, which generates more heat than you'd see on a broken-in battery. We measured this on the bench and it normalised after three to four full cycles as the cell's impedance settled. Keep the device on a hard, flat surface during those first charges so heat can dissipate. If the case becomes hot to the touch rather than just warm, disconnect the charger and let the cell cool before continuing.
The GPS powered on fine for two days, then stopped charging completely — the battery icon just stays static no matter what charger I use.
This is usually a BMS re-initialisation issue that appears after the cell voltage drops slightly lower than expected during early cycling on an uncalibrated cell. The BMS interprets the low voltage as an over-discharge event and latches the charge circuit open. Connect the device to a 5V USB charger — not a high-current fast charger — and leave it for 20 minutes without interacting with the device. The trickle pre-charge stage needs to run uninterrupted to push cell voltage back above 3.0V, at which point the BMS releases the latch and normal charging resumes.
