Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Vodavi 901700 / B1632 / Wanderer — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery
This is a 3.6V, 600mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Vodavi 901700, B1632, and Wanderer cordless handsets. It slots directly into the handset battery compartment and restores wireless operation when the original pack no longer holds charge. Voltage and capacity match the original specification.
- 901700, B1632, and Wanderer compatibility: All three handsets share the same 3.6V single-cell NiMH pack format, the same physical footprint (40 × 42 × 13.5mm), and the same base station charging contacts — which is why one battery covers the entire platform.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on a Vodavi-series base. The BMS accepted charge current from the first cycle and cell voltage stabilised to rated capacity by the fourth full cycle.
- First-charge protocol for NiMH cordless packs: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it there undisturbed for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH chemistry needs a slow initial charge to fully activate all cells — skipping this step leaves usable capacity on the table from day one.
Base station showing no charge or error light after installing a new pack
NiMH batteries lose voltage during storage — a pack sitting in a warehouse can drop below the threshold the base station requires before it will initiate a charge cycle. The base reads the incoming voltage, sees it outside the expected window, and either shows an error light or does nothing at all. The fix is a "boost" or trickle charge: some bases will eventually begin charging if the handset is left seated for 30–60 minutes at rest. If the base still shows no activity after that, check that the handset contacts are clean and making firm contact with the charging pins — voltage at the contacts should read at least 3.0V for the base to accept the pack.
Range drops noticeably when the handset moves away from the base
This happens when the NiMH pack's voltage sags under the RF transmit load — the radio module draws a brief current spike to maintain signal, and a partially conditioned or cold battery can't hold voltage through it. The handset compensates by reducing transmit power, which cuts range before the battery shows any other sign of weakness. Running three to five full charge-discharge cycles conditions the cells to deliver current without the sag. After conditioning, test range again — a fully cycled 3.6V pack at 600mAh should maintain consistent signal to the base station's rated distance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Talk time is noticeably shorter than the original battery — is the new pack faulty?
It's not faulty — NiMH cells ship in a partially discharged state and need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. Each cycle builds on the last, and talk time increases noticeably through cycles two, three, and four. Run the handset down to the low-battery warning, then place it in the base for a full charge, and repeat. By cycle five, the pack should be delivering its rated 600mAh.
The handset lost its pairing to the base after the battery was swapped — how do I get it back?
Removing the battery from a DECT handset cuts all power to the radio module, and some Vodavi cordless models drop their pairing data when power is fully interrupted. This is a handset behaviour, not a battery fault. To re-pair, place the handset in the base, press and hold the page or find button on the base unit until the handset responds, then follow the pairing prompt on the handset display. The exact key sequence is in the handset manual under "registering handset."
The battery drains completely overnight even though the handset is sitting in the base — what's causing it?
This points to a seating issue rather than a battery fault — if the handset isn't fully clicked into the charging cradle, the charging contacts don't make reliable contact and the base never actually charges the pack. Check that the handset sits flush in the base and that the contacts on both the handset and cradle are clean and free of dust or oxidation. Wipe both contact sets with a dry cloth, reseat the handset, and confirm the charge indicator light activates. If the light confirms charging but the pack still drains by morning, the base power adapter output should measure at least 9V DC under load.
