Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Wahl Cordless Magic Clip / Designer / Sterling 4 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (93837-001)
This 3.7V 3400mAh Li-ion battery replaces OEM part 93837-001 in several Wahl cordless clippers, including the Cordless Magic Clip, Designer, Sterling 4, and Super Taper Cordless. It slots into the same battery bay and connects to the same BMS handshake the clipper expects. Capacity is 3400mAh — identical to the original specification.
- Shared battery platform across Wahl cordless lineup: The Magic Clip, Sterling 4, and Super Taper Cordless share the same 3.7V cell format and connector pinout. Wahl standardised this across multiple SKUs, so one cell part number covers a wide range of professional clippers without any modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery under the clipper's rotary motor load and confirmed the BMS allowed full charge acceptance and delivered consistent voltage through discharge. The protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage threshold without triggering premature cutoff.
- Clipper blade tension and battery draw: A blade gap set too tight pulls more current from the cell under load. If your clipper runs warm and cuts out earlier than expected, check blade alignment before replacing the battery — excess drag amplifies voltage sag during cutting.
Capacity fade from daily partial charging on Wahl cordless clippers
Wahl's cordless clippers are typically charged after every use in a busy barbershop — often before the cell drops below 50%. Li-ion cells cycled repeatedly from 80% down and back up to 100% accumulate shallow-cycle degradation faster than cells allowed to discharge more fully. Over several months, the battery's usable capacity shrinks even though the charge indicator still reads full. The fix is to let the clipper run down to the low-charge warning before putting it on charge at least once every two to three weeks.
Clipper motor speed drops mid-cut before indicator shows low
This happens when the cell's internal resistance has risen enough that the motor's start-load current causes a voltage sag below the BMS protection threshold — even though resting voltage appears acceptable. The BMS reads the sag as a low-cell event and throttles or cuts power to protect the cell. A replacement cell with lower internal resistance eliminates the sag. Confirm the old cell is the cause by measuring its resting voltage: anything below 3.5V after a full charge confirms cell failure.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Wahl Magic Clip slows down mid-haircut but the battery indicator still shows charge — what's happening?
The cell's internal resistance has risen with age, so when the motor draws current on a cut, voltage sags sharply below the BMS protection threshold even though resting voltage looks fine. The BMS interprets that sag as a low-cell condition and throttles motor power to protect the cell. A new cell with lower internal resistance removes the sag. Check the old cell's resting voltage after a full charge — below 3.5V confirms it needs replacing.
The charging contacts on my Wahl clipper corroded after I rinsed the blade — now it won't charge at all. Is the battery dead?
Moisture bridging the charging contacts can trigger a BMS protection fault that looks exactly like a dead battery — the device simply refuses to accept charge. Before swapping the battery, dry the contact pins completely and clean them with a dry cotton swab. If the clipper still won't charge after the contacts are clean and dry, check whether the BMS needs a reset by connecting briefly to the charger, disconnecting, then reconnecting after 30 seconds. If it still fails, the cell itself may have entered deep-discharge lockout — at that point, replacement is the correct step.
I charged my Wahl Sterling 4 every night in the shop and now the run time is noticeably shorter even with a full charge — is this normal?
Yes — this is shallow-cycle degradation. Charging from 70–80% back to 100% every day without allowing deeper discharge accelerates capacity loss in Li-ion cells. The charge indicator still reads full because it tracks voltage, not actual capacity. The usable capacity of the cell has genuinely shrunk. Let the clipper discharge to its low-charge warning at least once every two to three weeks to slow further degradation in the replacement cell.
