WetRuner not charging after fitting the replacement battery

Some WetRuner chargers expect a specific BMS handshake before beginning the charge cycle — if the replacement cell's protection board does not respond correctly, the charger stays dark or shows a fault LED. First, confirm the charger output reads 8.4V with a multimeter; that is the correct full-charge voltage for a 7.4V Li-ion pack. If the charger output is correct but the battery still does not begin charging, the cell may be at too low a resting voltage for the BMS to wake — connect the battery for 10–15 minutes and check whether the indicator changes state.

The WetRuner robot cuts out halfway through a cycle and then restarts on its own — what is causing that?

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a battery failure. When the suction intake is partially blocked, the suction motor pulls more current than the protection circuit allows, and the BMS cuts power. Once the overload clears, the circuit resets and the unit restarts. Clean the filter and check the intake port before each session — that single step stops most mid-cycle shutdowns.

My WetRuner used to clean the whole pool on one charge but now it stops well before finishing — the battery isn't old, so why?

A partially blocked filter forces the suction motor to work harder, drawing more current than rated and depleting the cell faster than the battery indicator predicts. The indicator measures voltage, not actual energy left — under high motor draw, voltage sags and the cell hits cutoff earlier than expected. Remove and rinse the filter thoroughly, then run a cycle; if runtime recovers, the filter was the cause. If runtime stays short after a clean filter, the cell itself has developed capacity fade and the replacement battery will restore full cycle coverage.

I left the WetRuner on the dock between uses all season — now it barely runs. Did I damage the battery?

Yes — continuous dock charging is the most common cause of early capacity fade in Li-ion pool cleaner batteries. The WetRuner charger does not drop to a true float rate after the cell reaches full charge, so the battery sits under a low-level trickle that degrades cell chemistry over weeks. The original battery is likely past recovery. With the replacement cell, charge to full, then disconnect — check the charge indicator and remove the robot from the dock once it reads 100%.
