Why the 17T5 BIOS flags poor battery health after a cell swap

The 17T5 stores learned battery data — charge curves, internal resistance baselines, cycle count — in EEPROM on the old pack. When a new cell goes in, that data is gone. The BIOS compares actual behaviour against its stored model and flags a mismatch as poor health. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. One complete discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted full charge resets the learn cycle and removes the warning.

This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's voltage curve. The gauge reads 20–30% remaining, but the actual cell voltage has already dropped below the BMS cutoff threshold — so the system shuts down before the displayed percentage reaches zero. It is not a faulty battery. Run two to three full discharge-and-charge cycles and the gauge will align with real cell voltage. After calibration, the shutdown should not occur above 5–8% displayed charge.
