Sudden shutdown at 20–30% remaining on the replacement cell

This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet mapped the new cell's voltage cliff — the point where cell voltage drops steeply under modem or display load. The phone reads 25% but the cell voltage hits the BMS cutoff floor under a sudden current draw and the device powers off immediately. Run two full slow discharge-charge cycles without fast charging. After that the coulomb counter has enough data to anticipate the voltage drop and the reported percentage will align with the real cutoff point near 3.4V per cell.

On the first cycle with a new cell, the BMS sometimes rejects the elevated current until it has completed one full baseline charge at standard rate. Plug in using the original Xiaomi charger at standard (non-turbo) current and let it charge to 100% uninterrupted. Fast charging typically re-engages on the second cycle once the BMS has logged the cell's impedance profile.

The phone gets noticeably warm near the battery during charging after the swap — is that normal?

A new Li-Polymer cell has higher internal impedance than a cell that has gone through several hundred cycles. Higher impedance means more heat generated during charge current flow, especially in the first few cycles. The warmth should reduce cycle by cycle as the cell conditions. If the phone stays above 40°C at the back panel after five full cycles, check that the charge IC is not stuck in fast-charge mode — drop back to a standard 5V/2A charger and confirm the temperature drops.

My Mi 9T Pro won't power on at all after the battery sat in storage for a few months before I installed it — how do I recover it?

Li-Polymer cells in storage self-discharge slowly, and if the cell voltage drops below approximately 2.5V per cell the BMS trips a lockout to prevent damage — the phone will not respond to the power button or show any charging indicator.
