Fits Xiaomi Mi5 and replaces OEM battery part number BM22.
3.8V and 2900mAh capacity restores full charge cycles to the Mi5's system board and modem.
Connector sits flush against the internal battery slot with a single locking tab toward the top edge.
We ran the BMS through five full discharge cycles on the bench — fuel gauge IC settled without voltage sag below 3.0V under sustained load.
On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle so the coulomb counter recalibrates against the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging resumes.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Xiaomi Mi 5 / Mi 5 Gold Edition — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BM22)

The BM22 is a 3.8V, 2900mAh Li-Polymer cell for the Xiaomi Mi 5, Mi 5 Gold Edition, Mi 5 Gold Edition Dual SIM, and Gemini variants. It replaces the original internal battery when the existing cell degrades, drops voltage under load, or fails to hold a charge. Capacity is rated at 11.02Wh and matches the OEM specification for this platform.

  • Mi 5 platform compatibility: The Mi 5 and its Gold Edition variants share the same BM22 footprint, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. Swapping this cell across any of those sub-models does not require firmware changes or connector adapters.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the BM22 through charge and discharge cycles on a Mi 5 unit. The BMS accepted a full charge without triggering overvoltage cutoff, and the fuel gauge IC tracked cell voltage across the discharge curve without erratic reporting after the first complete cycle.
  • First-cycle fast charge protocol: On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC recalibrate against the new cell's discharge curve before high-current fast charging pushes current into an uncalibrated cell.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Mi 5 after a cell swap

A new BM22 cell has a discharge curve the fuel gauge IC has not yet mapped. Under sudden high-draw loads — modem transmission bursts or screen brightness spikes — the cell voltage can drop sharply below the threshold the IC expects for that reported percentage. The phone interprets this as an undervoltage event and shuts down even though the display showed charge remaining. One full slow discharge-charge cycle recalibrates the coulomb counter and the shutdowns stop.

Device not powering on after the BM22 sat in storage

Li-Polymer cells self-discharge during storage. If the BM22 dropped below approximately 2.5V, the BMS enters lockout mode and blocks current flow to protect the cell from deep-discharge damage. The phone will show no signs of life even connected to a charger. Connect the phone to a wall adapter — not a USB port — and leave it untouched for 20–30 minutes. The BMS trickle-charges the cell back above the recovery threshold, typically 3.0V, before allowing normal charge current to resume.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Xiaomi Mi 5 now shows the wrong battery percentage after fitting the BM22 — it jumps around and doesn't match actual charge level. What's causing this?

The fuel gauge IC on the Mi 5 is calibrated to the discharge curve of your old cell. A new BM22 has a slightly different internal resistance profile, so the IC's coulomb counter is reading against the wrong baseline. Run one complete slow discharge — down to automatic shutdown — followed by a full uninterrupted charge with fast charging disabled. After that single cycle the IC remaps its curve to the new cell and percentage reporting stabilises.

Fast charging stopped working the first time I plugged in after replacing the battery — the Mi 5 is only charging slowly now. Is the battery faulty?

This is a first-cycle behaviour, not a fault. The Mi 5's charge IC runs a handshake with the BMS before allowing high-current fast charging. On a brand-new cell with an uncalibrated state-of-charge, the IC defaults to a conservative trickle rate as a precaution. Complete one full slow charge cycle to 100%, then unplug and let the phone discharge naturally. On the next charge session, fast charging will engage once the BMS has a confirmed baseline voltage reading above 3.6V.

The Mi 5 feels warm near the battery during the first few charges with the new BM22 — is that normal?

A new Li-Polymer cell has higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell. During the first few charge cycles, the charge IC pushes current into a cell that resists it more than usual, and that resistance converts some energy to heat. This is normal for the first two to three cycles and reduces as the cell's impedance drops with use. If the phone becomes hot to the touch — not just warm — or the back panel bulges at any point, stop charging immediately and inspect the cell seating.
