Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Xiaomi Redmi Go — 3.85V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BN3A)
This is a 3.85V, 2900mAh Li-Polymer cell replacing part number BN3A in the Xiaomi Redmi Go smartphone. It fits models M1903C3GH and M1903C3GG. Swap it in when the original cell no longer holds a charge or causes unexpected shutdowns.
- Redmi Go compatibility: The M1903C3GH and M1903C3GG share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS handshake. All three model variants accept the BN3A cell without modification to the flex cable or connector bracket.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a Redmi Go unit. The BMS accepted the new cell, protection thresholds triggered correctly at the low-voltage floor, and the charge IC completed a full cycle without fault flags.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-to-charge cycle before normal use. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging pushes current into an uncalibrated state.
Why the Redmi Go reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap
The Redmi Go uses a coulomb counter in the fuel gauge IC that builds its model against the old cell's charge curve. When a new cell goes in, the stored curve no longer matches the actual cell chemistry. The gauge reads voltage and projects capacity using outdated data, so it shows incorrect percentages — often wildly optimistic in the upper range and pessimistic near the bottom. One full discharge down to auto-shutoff followed by a complete charge cycle forces the IC to rebuild its reference and restore accurate readings.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell
This happens when the fuel gauge IC still holds a stale calibration from the old cell. At around 20–30% as reported by the OS, the actual cell voltage drops sharply under modem or screen load — a voltage cliff the old curve didn't anticipate. The BMS hits its low-voltage cutoff and shuts the device down before the displayed percentage reaches zero. Run one full discharge cycle to auto-shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%; the gauge IC recalibrates and the shutdowns stop.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Redmi Go won't turn on at all after sitting in a drawer for months — is the battery dead?
The BN3A cell likely dropped below 2.5V during storage, which trips the BMS into lockout mode to prevent cell damage. Connect the phone to a wall charger — not a PC port — and leave it for at least 20 minutes before attempting to power on. The charge IC needs a trickle current to bring the cell voltage back above the BMS re-enable threshold before the phone will respond to the power button. If the charging indicator appears, the cell is recovering; give it a full uninterrupted charge before use.
Fast charging stopped working after fitting the replacement BN3A — the phone only charges slowly now.
On the first cycle after a cell swap, the charge IC and BMS handshake often defaults to standard 5V charging until the cell's internal resistance profile is established. Xiaomi's charge protocol checks cell impedance before unlocking higher current rates, and a brand-new cell reads differently than a broken-in one. Let the phone complete one full charge at the slow rate without interrupting it. On the second charge cycle, fast charging typically re-engages once the IC has recorded a baseline impedance reading from the new cell.
The battery percentage on my Redmi Go jumps around erratically — it reads 45%, then skips to 60%, then drops to 30%.
Erratic percentage jumps point to the fuel gauge IC recalibrating against the new cell's discharge curve in real time. The coulomb counter lost its reference when the old cell was removed, so it is now interpolating from incomplete data. Avoid topping up with short partial charges during this period — each interruption resets part of the recalibration. Discharge the phone fully to auto-shutoff, then charge straight to 100% in one uninterrupted session to give the IC a complete dataset to anchor against.
