Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Yaesu FTA-450L / FTA-750L Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (SBR-12Li / SBR-39Li)
This 7.4V, 2000mAh Li-ion pack replaces the SBR-12Li and SBR-39Li batteries in the Yaesu FTA-85L, FTA-450L, FTA-550L, and FTA-750L handheld aviation transceivers. These are VHF airband radios used for air-to-ground and interplane communication. Drop the original pack, seat this one, and the radio accepts the BMS handshake on first dock insertion.
- FTA-450L, FTA-550L, and FTA-750L shared battery rail: All four models in this lineup run the same 7.4V two-cell Li-ion architecture with an identical connector footprint and BMS handshake protocol — that is why one pack covers the full FTA series.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge on the FTA-450L dock. The BMS held steady through PTT transmit spikes and stayed within the dock's charge acceptance window without triggering a fault LED.
- Aviation radio contact maintenance: If the FTA dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, wipe the gold contact strip on the battery with a dry cloth and reseat firmly. The FTA charging dock requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake — oxidation or residue on the contacts will block it.
Why the FTA-750L drops to reduced TX power during sustained transmission
Aviation transceivers draw significantly more current during transmit than receive — the FTA-750L pulls a hard spike each time PTT is pressed. If cell impedance is high, voltage sags under that load and the radio's power management circuit steps down TX output to protect the final RF stage. This is not a radio fault — it is the BMS responding to a voltage floor. A new cell at storage charge (around 3.7V per cell) can trigger this on first use before the pack has been fully cycled up to 4.2V per cell.
Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected straight out of the box
Replacement packs ship at storage voltage — typically 3.7V per cell — not at full charge. The FTA series uses simple voltage-threshold bar indicators, so a pack at storage voltage will read one or two bars below full even though the cell is healthy. This is not a capacity fault. Seat the pack in the dock, complete one full charge cycle to 4.2V per cell, and the indicator will read correctly from that point forward.

Frequently Asked Questions
My FTA-450L cuts out completely when I press PTT on the new battery — what's happening?
This is a BMS overcurrent trip. The transmit current spike on the FTA-450L exceeds what the BMS expects when the cell is at storage voltage. Fully charge the pack before first use — one complete charge cycle brings each cell to 4.2V and gives the BMS the headroom it needs to handle the PTT spike without cutting out.
The dock fault LED comes on every time I insert the new SBR-12Li replacement — it never starts charging. How do I clear it?
The FTA charging dock rejects packs when the battery contacts are not making a clean connection or when the pack voltage sits below the dock's acceptance threshold. First, wipe the gold contacts on the battery with a dry cloth and reseat firmly. If the fault LED persists, the pack may be at a very low storage voltage — leave it seated in the dock for 10 minutes, as some FTA docks have a trickle pre-charge phase that runs before the main charge LED switches on.
After a full shift of radio use, the bar indicator on my FTA-550L drops faster than it did with the original battery — is the replacement pack weaker?
New Li-ion cells often show uneven discharge curves for the first two or three cycles because the cell chemistry has not yet stabilised. We measured this on the bench — capacity readings normalise after three full charge and discharge cycles. Run the pack down to the single-bar warning and recharge to full twice more, then reassess. If the indicator still drops faster than expected after cycle three, check that the dock is reaching a full 4.2V per cell at charge termination.
