Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HYT PT580 / PT580H — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BL1806)
This is a 7.4V, 2000mAh Li-ion replacement for the HYT BL1806 battery pack. It fits the PT580 and PT580H handheld transceivers used in commercial and industrial field operations. Voltage and capacity match the OEM spec exactly.
- PT580 and PT580H compatibility: Both models run the same 7.4V rail and use the same physical connector and BMS handshake protocol. One pack covers either variant — no hardware differences affect fit or function.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through simulated PTT bursts on the PT580 platform. The BMS handled transmit current spikes without tripping, and the charger dock accepted the handshake on first insertion across all units tested.
- First insertion on the HYT dock: If the dock LED flashes fault on first seating, remove the pack and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth before reseating. The PT580 charging dock requires a clean contact surface to complete the BMS handshake — a fingerprint or dust layer on the contacts is enough to block acceptance.
Why the PT580 drops to reduced TX power mid-shift on a new BL1806
A new Li-ion cell ships at storage voltage — typically around 3.7V per cell, not full charge. Under sustained RF output, that reduced state of charge causes voltage sag that the radio interprets as a low-battery condition. The PT580 firmware responds by stepping down transmit power to protect the final-stage amplifier. A full charge cycle before deployment eliminates this — the pack needs to reach 8.4V (4.2V per cell) before heavy field use.
Bar indicator reads one fewer bar than expected after fitting the BL1806
The PT580 uses a voltage-threshold bar indicator, not a fuel gauge chip. At storage voltage, the resting pack voltage sits below the threshold for a full-bar reading, so the display shows one or two bars even on a brand-new cell. This is not a capacity fault. Charge the pack fully — confirmed when the dock LED goes solid green — then reseat it and the bar indicator will read correctly at 8.4V resting.

Frequently Asked Questions
My PT580 cuts out completely when I press PTT — could this be the new BL1806 tripping?
Yes. When PTT is pressed, the transmitter draws a sharp current spike that can trigger the BMS overcurrent protection if the cell is at storage voltage or the contacts are dirty. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, reseat firmly, and charge to full before transmitting. Once the pack is at 8.4V, the BMS handles normal PTT current draw without tripping.
The charger dock LED has been blinking fault since I inserted the new pack — it won't clear no matter how many times I reseat it.
A persistent fault LED usually means the pack voltage is below the dock's acceptance threshold — common on a cell that has been in storage. The HYT dock will not begin a charge cycle if it reads the pack as too far discharged. Try connecting the dock to a different power source to rule out supply voltage, then leave the pack seated undisturbed for 10 minutes — some docks trickle-charge below the threshold before switching to full charge. If the LED clears and turns to charge mode, the pack is recovering normally; if it stays solid fault after 15 minutes, check that the contact pins are fully engaging and the gold strip is clean.
The PT580 shows a full charge on the dock but after one shift the bar indicator drops faster than it did with the old pack — is the new battery faulty?
Not likely. Voltage sag under sustained RF output causes the threshold-based bar indicator to step down faster than the actual remaining capacity warrants. The PT580 bar display reads instantaneous cell voltage, not stored charge — so extended transmit sessions pull voltage down temporarily and the indicator follows. Let the radio sit idle for two minutes mid-shift and check if the bars recover; if they do, the cell is healthy and the drop is load-induced sag, not capacity loss. Reduce continuous key-down transmit time to keep the voltage above the 7.0V lower threshold during heavy use.
