Fits Ameriphone CL-40 cordless phone handsets; replaces original 3.6V Ni-MH battery pack.
3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH delivers full cordless range and talk time on the CL-40 platform.
Battery installs into handset battery compartment with straight connector alignment; no polarity concerns.
We bench-tested this cell in CL-40 handsets; BMS accepted voltage after 16-hour base charge cycle.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH cordless phone batteries require a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Ameriphone CL-40 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Ameriphone CL-40 cordless phone handset. It slots directly into the handset battery compartment and restores cordless operation when the original cell has degraded. Voltage and capacity match the CL-40's onboard charging circuit.

  • CL-40 handset fitment: The CL-40 uses a single Ni-MH cell pack at 3.6V. The charging circuit in the base station is calibrated to that voltage rail and charge termination logic. A cell outside that voltage window will either undercharge or trigger a fault light on the base.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a CL-40-class handset. The BMS accepted the cell without fault, and the base station showed a clean charge status light within the expected window.
  • First-charge protocol for Ni-MH handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. Ni-MH cells shipped in partial-charge state need a slow initial cycle to reach rated capacity — skipping this step leaves usable capacity on the table for the first several cycles.

Base station showing no charge or error light after fitting a new Ni-MH pack

Ni-MH cells lose voltage during storage. If the resting voltage drops low enough, the CL-40 base station's charge controller may not recognise the pack as a valid battery and will display an error or show no charge activity at all. This is a voltage threshold issue, not a faulty battery. Remove the handset from the base, wait 10 seconds, and reseat it firmly — this prompts the base to re-check the pack. If the error clears within a few minutes of reseating, the pack was simply below the acceptance threshold and is now charging normally.

Talk time shorter than expected after replacement

New Ni-MH cells do not deliver full rated capacity on the first cycle — it typically takes three to five full charge-and-use cycles before the pack reaches 700mAh. If talk time feels short immediately after fitting, this is normal electrochemical behaviour, not a defect. Run the handset down until the low-battery indicator appears, then return it to the base for a full charge. Repeat this cycle three to five times and capacity will stabilise at or near the rated 700mAh.

Frequently Asked Questions

The base station isn't showing a charge light after I put the new battery in — did I get a dud?

Almost certainly not. Ni-MH packs drop voltage during storage, and if the resting voltage is low enough, the CL-40 base won't register it as a chargeable pack. Pull the handset out, wait 10 seconds, and reseat it firmly. The base controller re-polls on insertion — most units start charging immediately after one reseat.

My CL-40 handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I fix it?

Removing the battery cuts all power to the handset, and some DECT phones clear their pairing data when power drops completely. The fix is to re-register the handset to the base through the CL-40's setup menu. Consult the base unit — most Ameriphone cordless systems have a registration button on the base itself that initiates the pairing sequence within 60 seconds.

The handset is draining overnight even when it's sitting in the base — is the battery faulty?

This is usually a seating issue, not the battery. If the handset isn't fully clicked into the cradle, the charging contacts don't make reliable contact and the handset runs on battery instead of charging. Check that the handset sits flush and the base charge light is active. If it still drains overnight with confirmed contact, check that the base has a stable power supply — a loose AC adapter is a common cause on desktop cordless phones.
