Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

V Tech LS5101 / LS5105 / LS5145 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for the V Tech LS5101, LS5105, and LS5145 cordless phone handsets. It slots into the handset battery compartment and restores power to phones that no longer hold a usable charge. Capacity is 2.52Wh, matching the original specification.

  • LS5101 / LS5105 / LS5145 compatibility: These three handsets share the same 3.6V battery bay, connector orientation, and NiMH charging circuit. One battery fits all three without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through the LS5101 charging circuit and confirmed the BMS accepted charge from the base station without error. Voltage at full charge measured within the expected NiMH range for this cell configuration.
  • First charge on the LS5101 series: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells in cordless phone packs need a slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — skipping this step means the first few talk sessions will feel short.

Talk time shorter than original battery after replacement

NiMH cells ship in a partially discharged state and need three to five full charge-and-use cycles before they reach rated capacity. On the first cycle, the battery will feel noticeably weaker than the old one at its best. Each full cycle through the LS5101 charging circuit conditions the cells further. By cycle five, capacity typically stabilises at or near the 700mAh rating.

Base station showing no charge or error light after swap

NiMH batteries can drop to very low voltages during storage, and some DECT base stations reject packs that fall below their acceptance threshold. The LS5101 base charges by detecting a minimum voltage before engaging the charge circuit. If the light stays off or shows an error, remove the handset, wait 30 seconds, and reseat it firmly — the base sometimes needs a second detection attempt. If the problem persists, check the battery contacts are clean and the voltage at the pack terminals is not reading below 3.0V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My LS5101 handset won't pair with the base after I swapped the battery — did I break something?

No. Some DECT cordless phones lose their pairing data when power is fully removed from the handset, and the LS5101 series can behave this way. The fix is to re-register the handset to the base using the pairing button on the base station. Check page 20–22 of the LS5101 manual for the exact registration sequence — it takes under two minutes.

The handset is draining overnight even when it's sitting in the base — why?

This is a standby draw issue, not a battery fault. If the handset is not fully seated in the charging cradle, the charging contacts don't make a solid connection and the battery slowly discharges instead of topping up. Check that the handset clicks flush into the base and that the charge indicator light is on. Clean the gold contacts on both the handset and base with a dry cloth if the light still won't confirm a connection.

After a few weeks, the range on my LS5101 dropped noticeably — could the battery be causing this?

Yes, low battery voltage directly affects transmit power on DECT handsets. When a NiMH pack sags under RF load, the handset reduces output to protect the circuit, which cuts usable range. This is common if the battery hasn't completed enough conditioning cycles yet or if it's not reaching a full charge. Confirm the handset is sitting correctly in the base after each use and allow a full 16-hour charge — range should recover once the pack holds a stable charge above 3.6V.
