Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Xact B655 / EXG2801 / XG2155 / XG2200 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh nickel-metal hydride battery for Xact cordless phone handsets including the B655, EXG2801, XG2155, and XG2200 series. It replaces the original pack when the handset stops holding a charge or won't leave the base. Dimensions are 45.60 × 31.30 × 10.60mm — verify against your existing pack before fitting.

  • Shared pack across Xact handset models: The B655, EXG2801, XG2155, and XG2200 all draw from the same 3.6V single-cell NiMH architecture with an identical connector pitch. One battery format covers the full range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack on a DECT handset test rig. The NiMH cell accepted charge from a standard base station without triggering a charge-fault condition, and voltage held steady across the RF transmit window.
  • First charge protocol for NiMH cordless packs: After fitting, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells in cordless phones need a slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — a short first charge will leave you with noticeably reduced talk time from day one.

Base station showing a charging error light after fitting a new NiMH pack

DECT base stations read battery voltage before committing to a charge cycle. A NiMH pack that has sat in storage can drop below 3.0V, which some bases flag as a fault rather than a flat battery. The base isn't broken — it's rejecting a pack it reads as outside its acceptance window. Place the handset in the base, wait 30 seconds, remove it, and re-seat it firmly. If the error clears, the base has accepted the cell; if not, check resting voltage with a multimeter — it should read at least 3.0V before the base will engage a charge cycle.

Range drops noticeably mid-call after a battery swap

NiMH cells show a voltage sag under the RF transmit load of a DECT handset — this is most pronounced when the battery hasn't completed its first full conditioning cycle. The handset's transmit power follows available voltage, so a sagging cell means reduced signal reach before any visible low-battery indicator appears. Run three to five full charge-and-use cycles to allow the cell to reach rated capacity. After conditioning, resting voltage between calls should sit at approximately 4.0V for a freshly charged 3.6V NiMH pack.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Xact handset talk time is much shorter than it was with the original battery — did I get a dud?

Almost certainly not. NiMH cordless phone batteries need three to five full charge-and-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity — the first cycle typically delivers 60–70% of the rated 700mAh. Run the handset until the low-battery warning sounds, then return it to the base for a full 16-hour charge, and repeat that cycle at least three times. By cycle four, talk time should be consistent with the rated capacity.

The handset won't pair with the base after I swapped the battery — the DECT registration is gone.

Some DECT phones drop their pairing data when power is fully removed, because the registration is held in a volatile memory buffer that relies on battery voltage to persist. This isn't a battery fault. Re-register the handset manually using the base station's pairing button — the process takes under two minutes and is covered in your handset manual under "re-registration" or "handset registration."

The handset is losing charge overnight even when it's sitting in the base — the battery is flat by morning.

A handset draining overnight in the base usually means the contacts aren't making a clean connection. Check that the handset clicks fully into the cradle and that the charge contacts on both the handset and base are free of dust or tarnish — clean them with a dry cloth. If the charge light still doesn't illuminate consistently, check the base contacts with a multimeter: you should see 3.6–4.0V DC across the charging terminals when the base is powered.
