Fits Hiab AMH0627 wireless crane remote; replaces OEM battery 378-6692 and HIA7220.
7.2V 2000mAh Ni-MH cell delivers stable voltage output for solenoid activation and remote button response without dropout.
Connector slides into battery slot with positive terminal forward; locking tab seats flush against the remote housing.
Bench testing showed the Ni-MH chemistry accepts charge immediately with zero BMS delay; no conditioning cycle required.
For remotes stored idle between shifts, charge monthly even if the display shows power — Ni-MH cells self-discharge and lose voltage recovery if left completely flat.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Hiab AMH0627 / XS Drive Series — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (378-6692)

This is a 7.2V 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for Hiab wireless crane remote controls. It fits the AMH0627, AX-HI6692, and XS Drive / XSDrive series remotes used to operate Hiab load handling and material handling cranes. OEM part numbers 378-6692 and HIA7220 cross-reference directly to this cell pack.

  • AMH0627 and XS Drive compatibility: These remotes share the same 7.2V six-cell Ni-MH architecture, connector pinout, and BMS handshake logic. A single cell pack format covers all models in this cluster without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through full charge-discharge cycles on the AMH0627 platform. The BMS accepted the cell pack without error flags, solenoid activation held stable voltage above 6.8V under load, and the remote held full function across repeated crane command sequences.
  • Monthly charge cycle during crane downtime: Hiab crane remotes often sit unused for weeks between jobs. Ni-MH cells left uncharged for extended periods self-discharge to damaging levels. Charge this pack once a month during any idle period — cells discharged below 1.0V per cell may not recover on a standard charger.

Solenoid activation causing power dropout on a freshly installed battery

When a crane solenoid or relay fires, it draws a sharp inrush current lasting a few milliseconds. If the battery is at storage voltage rather than full charge, internal resistance is elevated and voltage sags hard under that spike. The BMS reads this as an undervoltage fault and cuts output to protect the cells. The fix is straightforward — charge the battery fully before installing it in any crane remote, and verify resting voltage sits at or above 8.4V before first use.

Remote showing low battery indicator immediately after swapping in a new pack

A new Ni-MH pack ships at storage voltage, typically 7.2–7.6V, not at full charge. The AMH0627 and XS Drive remotes read this as a depleted cell and trigger the low battery warning straight away. This is not a fault with the battery. Connect it to the Hiab OEM charger or a compatible Ni-MH charger and run a full charge cycle — resting voltage should reach approximately 8.4–8.6V before the low battery indicator clears.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Hiab crane remote won't power on at all after sitting unused for a few months — is the new battery dead?

The battery is likely not dead, but the cells have self-discharged to a level the remote's BMS will not accept. Ni-MH packs left uncharged for extended periods drop below the minimum operating threshold and the remote refuses to start. Connect the pack to a compatible Ni-MH charger for at least 30–45 minutes before inserting it into the remote. Once resting voltage reaches 8.4V or above, the remote should power on normally.

The crane remote cuts out mid-operation every time I activate a function — happened right after fitting this battery fresh out of the box.

Solenoid or relay activation pulls a sharp inrush current spike, and a Ni-MH cell at storage voltage has higher internal resistance than a fully charged one. That resistance causes the voltage to sag below the BMS cutoff threshold during the inrush event, and the remote shuts off to protect the cells. Remove the pack, charge it fully on a Ni-MH charger until resting voltage stabilises at 8.4–8.6V, then reinstall — the dropout will stop.

The E-stop response on my Hiab XS Drive remote feels sluggish compared to when the battery was new — what's causing that?

E-stop response time on these remotes is voltage-dependent — the transmitter needs sufficient voltage to fire the safety signal within its rated response window. As Ni-MH cells age and capacity fades, resting voltage under load drops and signal latency increases. Check resting voltage under a brief load; anything below 6.8V under activation indicates the pack needs replacement. Fit a fresh 2000mAh pack and verify resting voltage at 8.4V or above before returning the crane to safety-critical use.
