Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Medion MD-95780 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 3.7V 1200mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the Medion MD-95780 portable GPS navigator. It fits directly into the device's battery bay and restores power to the navigation unit. Capacity matches the original at 1200mAh (4.44Wh).

  • MD-95780 fit: The MD-95780 uses a single-cell 3.7V Li-ion pack at this compact form factor — 50.04 × 36.39 × 6.33mm. The replacement shares that footprint and voltage rail, so the onboard protection circuit reads the cell correctly without triggering a fault state.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the bench. The BMS accepted the cell without a voltage rejection error, and the protection circuit engaged at the correct cutoff threshold on discharge.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after swap: After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors before driving. A full power interruption clears the receiver's ephemeris cache, triggering a cold start — first satellite fix after a swap takes 5–10 minutes. Subsequent power cycles fix in under a minute once the cache rebuilds.

GPS accuracy reduced as battery drops below 3.5V

Some GPS units step down receiver sensitivity when the cell voltage falls below a set threshold — typically around 3.5V on a 3.7V nominal cell. The unit stays on and displays a route, but satellite signal strength drops noticeably and position accuracy degrades. This is a firmware-level power-saving response, not a hardware fault. Keeping the battery charged above 3.6V during active navigation prevents the sensitivity reduction from triggering.

MD-95780 shuts off without warning before the low-battery icon appears

The battery indicator on the MD-95780 reads estimated charge based on voltage, and a degraded original cell can cause the calibration to drift — the device shows two bars and then cuts off immediately. A fresh cell resets the voltage curve the indicator reads from. After fitting the new battery, run one full charge cycle to let the device re-anchor its low-voltage cutoff reference. If the unit shuts off unexpectedly, check that charge voltage reached 4.2V before first use.

Frequently Asked Questions

My MD-95780 lost all my saved routes after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Yes. The MD-95780 stores some navigation data in RAM that relies on continuous power. A full battery removal cuts that power and clears volatile memory, which wipes unsaved routes and recent destinations. Saved favourites stored to internal flash are usually unaffected. Before any battery swap, export your routes to the device's internal storage or an SD card if the firmware supports it.

Satellite lock is taking over 5 minutes on my MD-95780 after fitting the new battery — something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. Removing the battery clears the GPS receiver's ephemeris data — the satellite timing information it uses to fix quickly. Without that cache, the unit performs a cold start and has to download fresh ephemeris data from scratch, which takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Once the cache rebuilds, subsequent power-on fixes drop back to under a minute. Step outside and leave the device stationary until the first fix completes.

My MD-95780 drains noticeably faster when I'm actively navigating versus just sitting on the dash — what's pulling the power?

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver, the display backlight, and the processor simultaneously — that combination draws significantly more current than standby. The display alone at full brightness accounts for a large portion of the load on a 1200mAh cell. Reducing screen brightness to 50–60% during daylight navigation is the single most effective way to extend charge between top-ups. If drain is still faster than expected, confirm the backlight timeout is not set to "always on" in the device settings.
