Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Navigon 5100 / 5100 MAX — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (541380530001)

This 3.7V 1200mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the Navigon 5100 and 5100 MAX portable GPS navigators. It matches the OEM part number 541380530001 and fits the existing connector and housing without modification. Capacity figure is 4.44Wh as rated by the manufacturer.

  • 5100 and 5100 MAX compatibility: Both units share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 3.7V voltage rail. The BMS handshake behaviour is identical across both variants, so one cell covers the full range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the 5100 platform and confirmed the BMS accepted full charge without cutoff errors or protection-circuit trips at standard 5V USB input.
  • First-fix satellite acquisition after swap: After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors before driving. The unit performs a cold start after any full power interruption — first satellite acquisition can take 5–10 minutes compared to under a minute on a warm start. Let the fix complete before mounting the device in the vehicle.

GPS accuracy dropping when battery charge falls below 20%

The Navigon 5100 reduces receiver sensitivity at low cell voltage to protect core navigation functions. This appears as degraded positioning accuracy or slower route recalculation — not a GPS signal problem but a power-saving response triggered below roughly 3.5V. Replacing a degraded cell that sags early under GPS receiver load restores full sensitivity. After fitting this battery, charge to 4.2V before your first navigation session.

Device shuts off without warning despite showing charge remaining

This happens when the battery indicator is uncalibrated against the new cell. The 5100 reads state-of-charge from a voltage curve learned from the old battery, so the visual gauge still shows bars when the actual cell voltage has already hit the low-voltage cutoff threshold. The BMS then trips and the unit powers off mid-route. Run two full charge-discharge cycles after fitting this cell — the firmware re-learns the curve and the gauge behaviour normalises.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Navigon 5100 lost all my saved routes after I fitted the new battery — is that normal?

Yes. The 5100 stores some user data in volatile memory that relies on continuous battery power. A full power interruption during a battery swap clears that memory. Saved routes, recent destinations, and some POI favourites may not survive the swap. Re-enter critical destinations before your next trip and back up any custom POI files to your PC via the USB connection.

Satellite lock is taking 5–10 minutes on the Navigon 5100 after fitting the replacement battery — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. A full power interruption forces the GPS receiver into a cold start — it has lost its last-known position, almanac data, and ephemeris cache. Cold acquisition on the 5100 normally takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Subsequent warm starts after normal use drop back under a minute. Leave the unit stationary outdoors with the screen on until the position icon locks before you start driving.

Active navigation drains the Navigon 5100 battery much faster than just sitting on standby — why?

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver and the backlit display simultaneously, which is the highest-draw state the device reaches. Standby cuts the display and reduces receiver polling frequency. At full brightness with live routing active, the 1200mAh cell draws significantly harder than the standby baseline. Reducing screen brightness to the minimum usable level in daylight is the single most effective step — the display is the larger load of the two.
