Fits Garmin Nuvi 1200, Nuvi 1205, Nuvi 1205W, Nuvi 1250 and replaces OEM part 361-00035-01.
3.7V lithium-ion cell rated 930mAh delivers full power to GPS receiver and display without voltage sag during active navigation.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with a single locking tab; orientation is keyed to prevent reverse insertion.
We bench-tested this cell in a Nuvi 1200 and confirmed stable voltage delivery under sustained GPS operation with BMS responding normally to charge termination.
After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors and allow it to acquire a satellite fix before navigation — cold start after power interruption takes 5–10 minutes for first lock versus under a minute for warm starts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Garmin Nuvi 1200 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (361-00035-01)

This 3.7V, 930mAh lithium-ion cell replaces OEM part 361-00035-01 in the Garmin Nuvi 1200 portable GPS navigator. It also fits the Nuvi 1205, 1205W, and 1250, among other models in the same series. Dimensions are 52 x 34 x 6mm — match these against your existing cell before fitting.

  • Nuvi 1200 series compatibility: These models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 3.7V power rail. The BMS on each unit reads the same charge termination voltage, so one cell covers the full series without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Nuvi platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, charged to full termination voltage, and reported state-of-charge correctly through the device's battery indicator.
  • First fix after installation: After fitting this cell, power the GPS on outdoors and allow it to acquire a satellite fix before driving. Removing all power forces a cold start — first satellite acquisition takes 5–10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts drop back under a minute once almanac data is cached.

GPS accuracy reduced at low battery on the Nuvi 1200

When cell voltage drops toward the lower end of the discharge curve, some Nuvi units reduce RF receiver sensitivity to conserve power. This causes positional drift or sluggish map tracking before the low-battery icon appears. It is not a GPS signal problem — it is a power management response. Keeping the cell above 3.5V during navigation maintains full receiver performance.

Nuvi 1200 shuts off without warning at partial charge

After a battery swap, the Nuvi's fuel gauge is uncalibrated — it has no charge history for the new cell. The device may show two or three bars and then cut off abruptly because the voltage-threshold trigger fires before the visual indicator catches up. Run one full charge-to-discharge cycle to let the gauge recalibrate. After that cycle, the low-battery warning should appear at least a few minutes before shutdown.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Nuvi 1200 lost all my saved routes and favourites after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Yes. The Nuvi 1200 stores some user data in battery-backed memory. When you remove the cell entirely, that memory loses power and resets. Saved routes, recent destinations, and custom POIs can be wiped. Before any battery swap, export your favourites to the SD card via the device's tools menu — that copy survives a full power loss.

After fitting the new battery my Nuvi 1200 is taking forever to find satellites — what is happening?

Pulling the battery clears the GPS receiver's cached almanac and ephemeris data, forcing a cold start. Cold starts on the Nuvi 1200 typically take 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Stay stationary in an open area until the fix locks — do not drive during that first acquisition. Once the almanac rebuilds, warm starts will return to under a minute.

My Nuvi 1200 is draining the new battery much faster when I am actively navigating than when I just leave it sitting — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong — this is normal for the platform. Active navigation runs the GPS receiver continuously and keeps the backlit display on, which together draw significantly more current than standby. Reduce display brightness in Settings > Brightness to the lowest usable level, and enable the screen timeout so the display dims between turns. Those two changes reduce the active navigation load noticeably.
