Fits TomTom GPS-9821X navigator, replaces OEM part number Q6000021.
3.7V lithium-ion cell delivers 650mAh capacity for standard portable GPS navigation runtime.
Connector slides into the side battery slot with positive contact facing outward and locks flush.
We tested this cell on a GPS-9821X bench unit; BMS accepted the pack on first insertion with no fault codes.
After installing this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors and allow it to acquire a satellite fix before navigation—cold start after power interruption requires 5–10 minutes for first fix versus under a minute for subsequent warm starts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

TomTom GPS-9821X — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (Q6000021)

This 3.7V, 650mAh Li-ion cell replaces part number Q6000021 in the TomTom GPS-9821X portable navigator. It restores power to the unit when the original cell can no longer hold a charge or causes unexpected shutdowns. Dimensions are 60.00 x 30.50 x 4.50mm — measure your original before fitting if you are unsure.

  • GPS-9821X and GPS-9821X PDA/Handheld fit: Both model variants run the same 3.7V single-cell architecture with the same connector pinout and BMS communication protocol, so one cell covers both listings.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the Q6000021 replacement through full charge and discharge cycles on the GPS-9821X platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, and voltage at full charge held at 4.2V within spec.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after swap: After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors before driving. A full power interruption forces a cold start — first satellite fix takes 5–10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts drop to under a minute once almanac data is cached.

GPS-9821X shutting off without warning at low battery

The GPS-9821X uses a voltage-threshold system to gauge remaining charge. After a new cell is fitted, the device's fuel gauge is uncalibrated against the new cell's discharge curve. This means the low-battery warning indicator and the actual cutoff threshold fall out of sync — the unit can shut off abruptly before the visual warning fires. Run two full charge-to-discharge cycles to allow the threshold to recalibrate. Shutoffs should stabilise once the device has mapped the new cell's curve down to the 3.0V cutoff floor.

Saved routes and POIs missing after battery replacement

Some TomTom GPS-9821X units store active route data and recent POIs in battery-backed volatile RAM rather than flash. A full power removal — which battery replacement causes — clears that RAM entirely. Saved favourites stored in non-volatile flash survive the swap, but unsaved routes and recent destinations will not. Export any routes you need to keep via TomTom HOME or MyDrive before removing the old cell.

Frequently Asked Questions

My TomTom GPS-9821X is taking forever to find satellites after I fitted the new battery — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. Removing the battery causes a cold start, which forces the GPS receiver to rebuild its satellite almanac from scratch. That process takes 5–10 minutes on first use outdoors with a clear sky view. Once the almanac is cached in flash, subsequent power-ons lock on in under a minute.

The GPS-9821X shut off mid-route with no low-battery warning after the swap — why?

The device's charge indicator was calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve. With a fresh cell installed, the voltage-threshold mapping is off, so the cutoff at 3.0V hits before the visual warning triggers. Run two complete charge and discharge cycles and the indicator will recalibrate against the new cell's actual curve.

Active navigation drains the GPS-9821X noticeably faster than just leaving it on standby — is the new battery faulty?

The battery is not faulty. Active navigation runs the GPS receiver continuously while keeping the display at working brightness, pulling significantly more current than standby. Some GPS-9821X units also reduce receiver sensitivity as voltage drops below 3.6V to conserve power, which can cause positioning lag before the battery level looks critically low. Reduce display brightness during long routes to extend operating time between charges.
