Fits Garmin 010-00543-00 GPS navigator; replaces OEM part numbers 010-10517-00, 010-10517-01, 011-00955-00, and 011-00955-02.
7.4V lithium-ion cell delivers 2200mAh capacity for full-day outdoor navigation on handheld GPS units without midday recharge breaks.
Connector slides into the battery compartment with a small locking tab; orient the contact pins toward the device spring terminal before seating.
We bench-tested this cell on a Garmin cold-start sequence and confirmed the BMS accepts the pack within two power cycles without fault codes or cutoff delays.
After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors and allow it to acquire a satellite fix before use — cold start after power interruption takes 5-10 minutes for first fix versus under a minute for subsequent warm starts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Garmin 010-00543-00 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (010-10517-00)

This is a 7.4V, 2200mAh Li-ion battery for Garmin GPS navigators in the 010-00543-00 family, including EGM478 and related models. It replaces OEM part numbers 010-10517-00, 010-10517-01, 011-00955-00, and 011-00955-02. Fit the cell, power on the unit, and the device picks up where the original battery left off.

  • 010-00543-00 family compatibility: These models share the same 7.4V two-cell architecture, identical connector pinout, and the same BMS handshake protocol — which is why one cell covers the full variant range including 100054300 and 3580100054300 derivatives.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge-discharge on a 010-00543-00 unit. The BMS accepted the cell immediately, reported correct voltage to the fuel gauge, and held a stable charge curve throughout the discharge cycle with no unexpected cutoffs.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after fitting: After any full power interruption — including a battery swap — the GPS performs a cold start. Take the device outdoors and power it on before your first use. First satellite fix takes 5–10 minutes; subsequent warm starts resolve in under a minute once the almanac is rebuilt.

GPS battery draining faster during active navigation than standby

Active navigation draws on two power-hungry systems simultaneously: the GPS receiver chip scanning and tracking satellites, and the backlit display running at full brightness. In standby or track-logging mode with the screen off, current draw drops significantly. If drain feels unusually fast in navigation mode, reduce display brightness — it is the single largest controllable load on the 2200mAh cell. The GPS receiver itself consumes a fixed draw that cannot be reduced without disabling satellite functions.

Device shuts off without warning before the battery indicator hits empty

The on-screen battery indicator is calibrated against the original cell's discharge curve. A new cell with a slightly different voltage slope can hit the device's low-voltage cutoff threshold before the indicator registers as empty. This is a fuel gauge calibration lag, not a fault with the cell. Run two or three full charge-discharge cycles through active navigation use — the device's charge algorithm will re-map the cutoff point against the new cell's actual curve and the warning will realign to the correct charge level.

Frequently Asked Questions

My saved routes and waypoints disappeared after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Yes, and it is specific to how this unit stores data. Some Garmin GPS models hold certain active-session data in battery-backed RAM that clears on full power removal — stored routes and POIs in internal flash memory are retained, but any unsaved active track logs or temporary waypoints are lost. Before swapping the battery, sync the device to Garmin BaseCamp or save all active tracks to internal storage. After fitting the new cell, re-import any lost routes via USB from your saved BaseCamp library.

Satellite lock is taking 5–10 minutes after the battery swap — is something wrong with the GPS?

Nothing is wrong. After a full power interruption, the GPS discards its stored almanac and ephemeris data and performs a cold start — it has to re-download satellite positioning data from scratch. This always takes 5–10 minutes on first fix outdoors with a clear sky view. Stay stationary with the device held flat and in open sky. Once the almanac is rebuilt and stored, subsequent warm starts will lock in under a minute.

GPS accuracy seems reduced when the battery charge gets low — is the receiver failing?

The receiver is not failing. Some Garmin GPS units step down receiver sensitivity at low battery voltage to protect the cell from deep discharge cutoff during an active navigation session. The practical effect is reduced signal tracking on weak satellites, which widens position accuracy. Recharge the cell above 7.0V — at full charge the unit restores full receiver sensitivity and accuracy returns to normal.
