Fits Xiaomi Mi Max 3 smartphone; replaces OEM battery part number BM51.
3.85V and 5400mAh capacity sustains the phone through a full day of mixed use without mid-afternoon shutdowns.
Connector slides straight into the stock battery slot with no locking tab; orientation marked on the cell body matches the phone's internal slot.
We ran a full discharge-charge cycle on the BMS — fuel gauge IC accepted the new cell voltage curve after one complete cycle without dropout errors.
On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle to let the fuel gauge IC recalibrate against the new cell discharge curve before high-current charging.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Xiaomi Mi Max 3 — 3.85V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BM51)

The BM51 is a 3.85V, 5400mAh Li-Polymer cell that fits the Xiaomi Mi Max 3, Mi Max 3 Dual SIM TD-LTE, M1804E4T, and M1804E4A. It replaces the original factory cell when the phone can no longer hold charge, shuts down unexpectedly, or fails to power on. Capacity is 20.79Wh — matching the original specification.

  • Mi Max 3 platform fit: All listed variants — M1804E4T, M1804E4A, single and dual SIM — use the same BM51 footprint, connector, and BMS communication protocol. The cell dimensions are 103.92 × 73.94 × 3.78mm, which match the original battery tray with no modification required.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the BM51 through charge and discharge cycles on Mi Max 3 hardware. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, and the charge IC cycled correctly through CC and CV phases at both standard and fast-charge current levels.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge down to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This gives the fuel gauge IC a full reference curve against the new cell before high-current charging begins.

Why the Mi Max 3 reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap

The Mi Max 3 uses a coulomb counter that builds its charge curve against the old cell's impedance and capacity profile. When a new cell goes in, the counter still references the previous curve, so the percentage on screen drifts from the actual state of charge. This shows up as sudden jumps — the display may read 40% and then drop to 15% within a few minutes under load. One full uninterrupted discharge-to-shutdown followed by a complete charge cycle resets the reference and brings the display back into alignment.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

This is a voltage cliff issue, not a capacity problem. Under combined modem, display, and processor load, the cell voltage sags below the BMS cutoff threshold before the fuel gauge reaches 0%. It happens most often on the Mi Max 3's large screen when brightness is high and a data connection is active. The fix is the same recalibration cycle — one full discharge lets the fuel gauge IC map the actual voltage-to-capacity curve of the new cell. After calibration, the BMS cutoff and the displayed percentage stay in sync, and shutdowns below 3.2V under load stop occurring.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Mi Max 3 won't turn on after the new BM51 battery sat in the drawer for a few months — is it dead?

A cell stored uncharged can drop below 2.5V, which triggers BMS lockout to prevent damage. Connect the phone to a wall charger — not a PC port — and leave it for 20–30 minutes before attempting to power on. The charge IC will apply a trickle current to bring the cell back above the recovery threshold. If the screen shows no charging indicator after 40 minutes on the charger, the cell has gone below recoverable voltage and needs replacement.

Fast charging stopped working on the Mi Max 3 right after I fitted the replacement battery — is something broken?

This is normal on the first cycle. The phone's USB-PD and proprietary fast-charge handshake depends on the BMS confirming cell status before allowing high-current input. On a new cell, the BMS hasn't completed its first full cycle, so the charge IC defaults to standard 5V charging as a safety measure. Run one complete discharge to shutdown, then plug in — fast charging will typically re-enable once the BMS has a full cycle on record.

The battery percentage on my Mi Max 3 keeps jumping around erratically after the swap — it went from 55% to 31% without warning. What's going on?

The fuel gauge IC is still using the discharge curve it mapped for the old cell. The new BM51 has a different impedance profile, so the coulomb counter miscalculates state of charge — especially between 60% and 25% where voltage slope changes most. Perform one full uninterrupted discharge to automatic shutdown, then charge straight to 100% without unplugging. After that single cycle, the fuel gauge recalibrates against the new cell and percentage readings stabilise.
