Fits MSI Alpha 15 A3DDK, A4DEK, B5EEK, B5Ex models; replaces OEM part BTY-M55.
15.4V 5800mAh Li-Polymer cell delivers 89.32Wh to sustain CPU and GPU load cycles.
Connector plugs straight into the internal socket with single locking tab on base.
We ran full charge cycles on the A3DDK platform; BMS initialized without fault codes cleanly.
After installation, discharge fully to system hibernation cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — this resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears false health warnings.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

MSI Alpha 15 Series — 15.4V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BTY-M55)

This is a 15.4V, 5800mAh (89.32Wh) Li-Polymer replacement battery for the MSI Alpha 15 A3DDK, A4DEK, B5EEK, and B5Ex gaming laptops. It replaces OEM part numbers BTY-M55 and 925QA055H. Fit this when the original cell no longer holds a usable charge or shuts the system down unexpectedly under load.

  • Alpha 15 A3DDK through B5Ex compatibility: These four models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol. The 15.4V four-cell configuration matches the voltage rail MSI uses across this Alpha 15 generation, so the replacement slides in without a firmware conflict.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the Alpha 15 platform. The BMS handshake completed correctly on first boot, the charging IC accepted the new cell without fault codes, and capacity reporting initialised through the SMBus without intervention.
  • BIOS learn cycle after install: After fitting this cell, run one full discharge until the laptop hibernates, then charge uninterrupted to 100% before use. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap on MSI's Alpha series.

Laptop shuts down at 20–30% shown after battery swap

This is a voltage cliff issue, not a faulty cell. Under combined CPU and GPU load — common during gaming on the Alpha 15 — current draw spikes sharply. If the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's discharge curve, it reads the remaining charge too high. The cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold before the displayed percentage reaches zero, triggering an abrupt shutdown. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate and uninterrupted charge cycles to give the fuel gauge IC enough data to map the new cell accurately.

BIOS reporting battery Wh rating as wrong after replacement

The Wh figure shown in BIOS or system info comes from EEPROM data embedded in the battery's BMS chip, not from a live cell measurement. On a new replacement cell, the EEPROM may report the rated chemistry value rather than the exact figure listed on the label. This is a data-field mismatch, not a capacity defect — actual deliverable energy is unchanged. If the displayed Wh is within 5% of the rated 89.32Wh after two calibration cycles, the cell is performing correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

My MSI Alpha 15 shows battery health as "poor" or "replace now" immediately after fitting this new cell — is something wrong with it?

Nothing is wrong with the cell. MSI's BIOS carries over health data stored in the old battery's EEPROM and flags a warning when it detects a new, unrecognised cell. Run one full discharge to hibernate-cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — this forces the BIOS battery learn cycle to reset against the new cell and clears the warning on the next boot.

The fuel gauge on my Alpha 15 is jumping wildly — showing 60%, then 45%, then 70% within minutes after the swap.

The fuel gauge IC needs calibration cycles against the new cell's discharge curve before its readings stabilise. It's still working off the old cell's mapped data. Run two complete discharge-to-hibernate and full-charge cycles without interrupting either phase. After the second cycle, the percentage readings should track smoothly and accurately across the full charge range.

Charging stops at 80% and will not go higher — the laptop just sits there plugged in and holds at 80%.

This is almost always MSI's BIOS-controlled charge limit, not a fault with the battery. MSI Dragon Center or MSI Center includes a "Battery Saver" or charge threshold setting that caps charging at 80% to reduce cell stress during long plug-in sessions. Open MSI Center, navigate to Battery settings, and disable the charge threshold or set the upper limit to 100% — charging will resume to full on the next plug-in.
