It replaces OEM part number R15B05W when the original cell has degraded or stopped holding charge. Dimensions are 297.70 × 89.80 × 9.30mm — verify against your existing pack before fitting.

Under combined CPU boost and display load, the cell voltage drops faster than the fuel gauge IC recalculates — the EC trips a hard shutdown before the displayed percentage reaches zero. The fuel gauge IC needs two to three full calibration cycles against the new cell before its discharge curve model stabilises. Run those cycles under normal workload and the shutdown threshold will settle back to the correct low-voltage cutoff near 5–8% displayed.

Windows is showing my new R15B05W battery as 0% or "unknown" and it won't charge — what's wrong?

The fuel gauge IC in the Notebook Pro X 15 loses its calibration reference when the cell is swapped. The controller hasn't mapped the new cell's discharge curve yet, so it reports an invalid state. Plug in the charger and leave it connected for a full uninterrupted charge cycle — the EC will re-initialise communication with the new cell's EEPROM and the percentage will stabilise. If it remains at 0% after a full charge attempt, reseat the battery connector and repeat.

System information shows the wrong Wh rating — it's reporting something lower than 79.7Wh — is this cell faulty?

This is an EEPROM data mismatch, not a cell fault. The Wh figure displayed in Windows or BIOS is read directly from the battery's EEPROM register, which stores the manufacturer's rated design capacity. Until the fuel gauge IC completes at least one full calibration cycle on the new cell, the reported value may reflect a stale or default register entry rather than the actual 79.7Wh spec. Run two full charge-discharge cycles and the reported Wh will align with the cell's real rated capacity.

My Notebook Pro X 15 charges fine but the battery percentage jumps around wildly — drops 10% in minutes, then stalls for ages — is the cell defective?

The fuel gauge IC builds its discharge curve model over multiple cycles. On a fresh cell, the model it's using was calibrated for the old, degraded pack — so the percentage interpolation is inaccurate and the jumps are real errors in the estimation, not cell behaviour. This corrects itself after two to three full discharge-to-hibernate and charge-to-100% cycles under normal laptop workload. After the third cycle, the percentage tracking should be consistent within a few percent across the full state-of-charge range.
