Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Pax E500 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (IS486)
This is a 3.7V, 2600mAh Li-ion battery for the Pax E500 portable payment terminal. It replaces part number IS486 when the original cell degrades and can no longer hold a working charge. The E500 is a countertop and handheld POS device used for card transactions in retail and hospitality environments.
- E500 connector and BMS match: The IS486 form factor uses a specific multi-pin connector that carries both power and communication lines to the E500 mainboard. A mismatched cell either fails the BMS handshake or triggers a low-voltage warning at first boot regardless of state of charge.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full boot sequence on an E500 unit, pushed through the PCI initialisation, and monitored BMS communication. The charge IC accepted the cell and the fuel gauge reported correctly after one complete charge cycle.
- First transaction cycle before live deployment: After fitting this battery, complete one full transaction cycle before putting the terminal into a live payment queue. The E500 maps battery capacity during normal operation and needs at least one complete power cycle to calibrate the charge indicator correctly.
Pax E500 rebooting mid-transaction after a battery swap
When the receipt printer fires, the E500 draws a short high-current burst that can exceed what a partially initialised BMS will allow. On a freshly installed cell, the BMS overcurrent threshold is still at its factory default — tighter than normal operating headroom. This causes the terminal to cut power mid-print or mid-tap, which looks like a software crash but is a hardware protection trip. Run two or three test transactions before live use to allow the BMS to settle into its normal operating window.
E500 not powering on after sitting unused in a drawer
Li-ion cells self-discharge at roughly 2–3% per month. If the E500 has been in storage long enough, the cell voltage can drop below 3.0V — the point where most BMS circuits lock the output to prevent damage. The terminal will not respond to the power button at all, which is commonly misread as a dead unit. Connect the original charger and leave it for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on; the charge IC needs to trickle the cell back above the 3.0V recovery threshold before normal charging resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Pax E500 charge indicator has been stuck at 99% for over an hour — is the battery not charging properly?
This is normal behaviour on a new cell. The E500's charge IC enters a top-off mode when the battery is close to full, delivering a reduced current to avoid overcharging. The fuel gauge does not update in real time during this phase, so it holds at 99% until the top-off cycle completes and the IC signals a full charge. Leave it on the charger until the indicator moves to 100% on its own — no action needed.
The E500 feels noticeably warm during a busy period — is the battery overheating?
During high-transaction periods the E500 runs its display, wireless radio, and receipt printer simultaneously. That combined draw is the highest load this terminal produces, and the battery will be warmer than during standby — this is expected. The cell is rated to handle it. If the terminal is hot to the touch and slowing down, check that the charging cradle or case is not blocking ventilation around the battery compartment.
The Pax E500 won't complete the PCI boot sequence after fitting this replacement battery — it stalls on the startup screen.
The E500 runs a BMS handshake during the PCI boot sequence and will stall if the battery cell voltage hasn't stabilised after installation. This typically happens when the replacement cell ships at a partial state of charge. Connect the terminal to its charger for 15–20 minutes before attempting to boot — once the cell is above approximately 3.6V, the BMS handshake completes and the boot sequence runs through normally.
