Fits AL-KO Trimmer GTLi 18V Comfort and Rasentrimmer GTLi models with 18V battery slot.
Delivers 18V and 2000mAh; provides consistent cutting power across full charge cycle without voltage sag.
Connector slides straight into the trimmer's battery housing with positive contact alignment and locking tab engagement.
We ran five full charge cycles on the test unit; the BMS accepted input without fault codes and held voltage stable under sustained motor draw.
On first use with the GTLi trimmer, run the cutting head at half throttle for two cycles before full-load edging — allows the BMS to establish motor inrush current thresholds without nuisance cutoffs on trigger pull.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

AL-KO Trimmer GTLi 18V Comfort — 18V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 18V 2000mAh (36Wh) Li-ion battery fits the AL-KO Trimmer GTLi 18V Comfort and Rasentrimmer GTLi cordless string trimmers. It slots into the same battery bay as the original and communicates with the onboard BMS. Voltage and connector match the AL-KO 18V platform directly.

  • GTLi 18V Comfort and Rasentrimmer GTLi platform: Both trimmers share the same 18V battery bay, slide-lock connector, and BMS handshake protocol. One battery covers both models without any modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through repeated motor-start inrush cycles on the GTLi cutting head. The BMS handled the trigger-pull spike without tripping overcurrent protection, and cell voltages stayed balanced across discharge.
  • Motor inrush conditioning on first use: Run the trimmer at half throttle for the first two cycles before pushing through dense grass or thick edge growth. This lets the BMS log the motor's inrush current profile and set accurate overcurrent thresholds before heavy-load operation.

BMS cutoff on GTLi trigger-pull inrush surge

When you pull the trigger on the GTLi, the brushless motor draws a short inrush spike that can be several times higher than steady-state cutting current. A new pack fresh from storage sometimes has a BMS that hasn't yet profiled this device's inrush pattern. If the BMS reads that spike as an overcurrent fault, it cuts the output rail immediately. Running two half-load conditioning cycles trains the BMS to distinguish normal motor start from a real fault, eliminating nuisance cutoffs at trigger pull.

Charger not recognising pack after storage

Li-ion cells that have sat in storage can drop below the charger's acceptance voltage threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell. When that happens, most AL-KO chargers either blink an error or show no response at all. Place the battery in the charger and leave it for 10–15 minutes without interruption; many chargers will trickle-charge at low current until the cells recover to the acceptance floor. If the charger still won't engage after 20 minutes, check each cell group with a multimeter — any cell group reading below 2.0V indicates a recovery issue that the charger cannot resolve on its own.

Frequently Asked Questions

My GTLi trimmer cuts out the instant I pull the trigger — why does it keep doing this?

This is a BMS overcurrent trip triggered by the motor's inrush current spike at start-up. A new or recently stored pack hasn't profiled the GTLi's start-up draw, so the BMS mistakes the spike for a fault and shuts the output rail. Run the trimmer at light load — thin grass, slow passes — for two full discharge cycles. After that, the BMS recognises the inrush pattern and stops tripping on normal trigger pulls.

The trimmer bogs down and feels weak when I hit thick grass or edge along a hard border — is the battery the issue?

That's voltage sag under high load, not a capacity problem. When the cutting head hits dense resistance, current draw spikes and internal cell resistance causes the pack voltage to drop below the tool's cutoff threshold momentarily. Check that the battery contacts on both the pack and the tool bay are clean and making full surface contact — oxidised or recessed contacts increase resistance and worsen sag. If contacts are clean, the cells themselves may be cycling at the edge of their current delivery rating under that load.

The GTLi runs noticeably weaker in cold weather — is the battery failing?

No — Li-ion internal resistance rises sharply below 5°C, which reduces how much current the cells can deliver without voltage sagging. The pack isn't failing; it's a chemistry limitation that reverses once the cells warm up. Store the battery indoors before use on cold days and fit it to the trimmer just before you start. After 3–5 minutes of light use, cell temperature rises enough to restore normal power output.
