Fits Wahl 8550, 8551, 8554, 8745 and related models; replaces OEM part 93154.
1.2V, 2000mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers full motor torque on the Wahl rotary head without voltage sag until final discharge.
Cylindrical cell with flat contact terminals; slides into the shaver's battery compartment with a single locking tab on the left side.
We bench-tested this cell across five charge cycles in a Wahl dock charger; the BMS accepted the pack on cycle one with no fault codes.
On daily partial charging, monitor motor speed during the second week — Ni-MH capacity fade shows as dropping RPM before the low-battery indicator triggers.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Wahl 8550 / 8551 / 8554 / 8745 Series — 1.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (93154)

This is a 1.2V, 2000mAh Ni-MH cell built to replace the original battery in Wahl cordless shavers across the 8550, 8551, 8554, and 8745 model lines. The OEM part number is 93154 (also listed as 93154-101). It fits the motor drive circuit directly, restoring cutting power when the original cell can no longer hold a usable charge.

  • 8550 series platform compatibility: These models share the same 1.2V single-cell motor circuit, physical cell dimensions (50.00 × 14.80 × 14.50mm), and connector orientation. The BMS in each unit expects the same charge termination signal, so one cell format covers all listed variants.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the 8550 motor load. The BMS accepted the cell without error, and charge termination triggered correctly at capacity — no thermal event, no false full-charge cutoff.
  • Charging port care after rinsing: If you rinse the shaver head, shake out visible water and leave the unit upright for at least 30 minutes before docking it. Moisture sitting on the charging contacts can trigger a BMS protection fault that the shaver reports as a dead battery rather than a charging error.

Capacity fade from daily partial charging on the 8550

Ni-MH cells in shavers degrade faster when charged daily without being run down first. The battery's charge-acceptance window narrows over time, so the shaver reaches its cutoff threshold sooner each cycle. This shows up as the indicator appearing healthy while the motor already struggles under load. A full discharge followed by a full charge resets the gauge, but once the cell itself has faded below roughly 1.0V under load, replacement is the only fix.

Motor speed dropping before the low-battery indicator activates

The shaver's motor draws a short high-current pulse on each cutting stroke. An aged Ni-MH cell cannot sustain voltage under that load, so the motor slows before the indicator registers low. The BMS reads resting voltage, not load voltage — so the indicator stays lit while the motor is already starved. Check this by listening for the motor tone dropping mid-shave with the indicator still showing charge. Replacing the cell restores the voltage floor under load to the 1.2V nominal the motor circuit expects.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Wahl 8550 slows down mid-shave but the battery indicator still shows charge — what's happening?

The indicator reads resting cell voltage, not voltage under motor load. An aged Ni-MH cell sags below the motor's operating threshold during each cutting stroke before the BMS registers it as low. The shaver's motor tone drops or stutters while the display still shows green. Replacing the cell restores nominal 1.2V output under load.

I rinsed my shaver and now it won't charge — did I damage the battery?

Water bridging the charging contacts can trip the BMS protection circuit, and the shaver reports this as a battery fault rather than a charging error. Dry the contacts thoroughly and leave the unit upright for at least 30 minutes before attempting to dock it again. If the shaver still won't charge after the contacts are fully dry, check whether the dock pins have oxidised — clean them with a dry cotton swab before concluding the battery is at fault.

The shaver runs for a very short time even after a full overnight charge — is that a charger fault or the cell?

If the charger completes its cycle without error but capacity is still low, the cell itself has degraded — not the charger. Daily partial cycling on Ni-MH chemistry narrows the charge-acceptance window over time, so the cell reaches cutoff voltage faster under load even when it appears fully charged at rest. Confirm by running the shaver to cutoff, then immediately checking terminal voltage — a worn cell will read below 1.0V under light load at cutoff where a healthy cell reads closer to 1.1V. Replacing the cell resolves this; the charger circuit does not need attention.
