Fits HP ElitePad 900, ElitePad 900 G1, and compatible models; replaces HSTNN-DB3U, AT02XL, 685987-001, and other OEM part numbers.
7.4V, 3350mAh lithium-polymer cell delivers 24.79Wh to restore full charge cycles on this business tablet after original cell degradation.
Connector seats flat into the battery slot with single locking tab; orientation is keyed — slides in one direction only.
We bench-tested this cell in an ElitePad 900 and confirmed the BMS accepted the new pack on first insertion with no fault codes.
After installation, run one full discharge to automatic shutoff then charge uninterrupted to 100% — this recalibrates the fuel gauge IC against the new cell and fixes inaccurate percentage display after the swap.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HP ElitePad 900 / 900 G1 — 7.4V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (HSTNN-DB3U)

This 7.4V, 3350mAh (24.79Wh) lithium-polymer battery replaces the original cell in the HP ElitePad 900 and ElitePad 900 G1 tablets. It fits the slim 3.41mm profile of the ElitePad chassis and connects to the same internal charge circuit. OEM part numbers HSTNN-DB3U, AT02XL, and 685987-001 all cross to this cell.

  • ElitePad 900 and 900 G1 fit: Both generations share the same internal bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — the 7.4V voltage rail and cell footprint are unchanged between them. One replacement covers both variants.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the ElitePad charge IC and confirmed the BMS negotiates correctly at both trickle and full charge rates. The protection circuit trips at the correct cutoff voltage under combined display and WiFi load.
  • Fuel gauge reset after installation: After fitting this battery, run one full discharge to automatic shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without using the tablet. This resets the fuel gauge IC calibration against the new cell — skipping this step causes the percentage display to read inaccurately for days.

Why the ElitePad 900 shuts down at 15–25% remaining

The ElitePad's charge controller reads cell voltage to estimate remaining capacity, but after a battery swap it still references the discharge curve of the old, degraded cell. When the new cell hits roughly 3.6V per cell under combined display, WiFi, and CPU load, the voltage briefly sags below the controller's shutdown threshold — even though the cell physically has charge left. The firmware interprets this sag as end-of-charge and cuts power. One full discharge-to-shutoff cycle followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% writes a new curve to the fuel gauge IC and resolves this.

HP ElitePad 900 reporting 0% or stuck percentage after battery swap

A stuck or frozen percentage reading after installation means the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's impedance profile. The controller hasn't seen a full charge-discharge cycle on the new cell, so it has no reference points to interpolate from. Power the tablet fully off, charge to 100% with the screen off, then drain to automatic shutoff in a single session. After the next full charge, the percentage display tracks correctly against actual cell voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions

My HP ElitePad 900 shuts off suddenly at around 20% after fitting the new battery — is the battery faulty?

The battery is not faulty. The fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve, so it misreads voltage sag under display and WiFi load as end-of-charge. Run one full drain to automatic shutoff in a single session, then charge uninterrupted to 100% with the screen off. After that cycle, the shutdown behaviour stops.

Fast charging isn't available on my ElitePad 900 since I swapped the battery — was it working before?

The ElitePad 900 uses a proprietary charge handshake between the charge IC and the battery's BMS. On a fresh cell, the charge IC defaults to a conservative rate until it has completed one accepted full charge cycle and confirmed the BMS response. Plug into the HP original AC adapter, charge to 100% uninterrupted, and the charge IC will step up to full rate on the next charge.

The battery percentage on my ElitePad 900 drops fast from 100% but then slows down — what's causing the uneven drain?

This is fuel gauge drift. The charge controller interpolates percentage from voltage curves mapped to the old cell, so the top end of the curve is compressed and the reading drops quickly before levelling out. The cell itself is discharging normally. One full discharge-to-shutoff cycle followed by a complete uninterrupted charge rewrites the reference curve — the percentage should track evenly from 100% to shutoff after that.
