Fits Vileda 488A and A3 cordless vacuum cleaners, replacing the original 14.4V Ni-MH battery pack.
14.4V and 3000mAh capacity sustains motor power through full cleaning cycles on floors and upholstered furniture without voltage sag.
Connector slides into the battery slot on the handle with a single locking tab; orient the terminals upward and push until the tab locks flush.
We bench-tested this Ni-MH pack on the 488A motor load—BMS accepted charge without delay, and voltage held steady under sustained suction draw.
Do not leave this vacuum on the charging dock permanently; continuous trickle charge degrades Ni-MH capacity faster than charging only when depleted and removing immediately.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Vileda 488A / A3 — 14.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 14.4V, 3000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Vileda 488A and A3 cordless handheld vacuum cleaners. It slots into the same battery compartment as the original cell and connects to the same motor driver board. Capacity is rated at 43.2Wh — matching the factory specification for this vacuum series.

  • 488A and A3 platform compatibility: Both models share the same 14.4V motor rail, battery bay dimensions, and connector pinout. A single cell covers both without modification or adapter.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge runs on the 488A motor board. The BMS held voltage steady under sustained suction load and cut off cleanly at the low-cell threshold without tripping the overcurrent rail prematurely.
  • Dock charging discipline: Do not leave this vacuum sitting on the charging dock continuously. Ni-MH cells in cordless vacuums develop capacity fade significantly faster under constant trickle charge. Charge to full, then remove from the dock until the next use.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

Ni-MH cells under load show a voltage curve that sags early when the cell is aged or the filter is partially blocked. The motor draws more current trying to maintain airflow, which pulls the cell voltage down faster than the indicator circuit expects. The indicator reads state-of-charge from resting voltage — not real-time load voltage — so it lags behind what the motor actually sees. Clean or replace the filter first, then recharge fully; if suction still drops early, the cell is the likely cause.

Motor cuts out mid-use then recovers after a short pause

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When the filter is restricted or the pickup head is partially blocked, the motor draws sustained high current to compensate. The BMS reads this as an overcurrent event and shuts the output rail to protect the cell. After a brief pause the BMS resets and power returns. Clear the blockage, check the filter for compacted debris, and recharge the cell before the next run — sustained overcurrent trips accelerate cell degradation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my Vileda 488A lose suction well before the battery light comes on?

The battery indicator on the 488A reads resting cell voltage, not voltage under motor load — so it lags behind what the motor actually sees. A partially blocked filter forces the motor to draw more current, which pulls cell voltage down faster than the indicator tracks. Clean or replace the filter first. If suction still drops with a clean filter and a fully charged cell, the cell has lost capacity and needs replacing.

The motor on my Vileda cordless vacuum cuts out for a few seconds then comes back on — what's happening?

That's the BMS tripping the output rail on an overcurrent event. It happens when the pickup head or filter is blocked enough that the motor sustains a high current draw trying to maintain suction. The BMS shuts down to protect the cell, then resets after a short pause. Clear any blockage from the head and filter before the next run — repeated BMS trips under load shorten cell life faster than normal cycling.

My replacement battery charges fully but the vacuum runs for noticeably less time than the old one did when it was new — is the new cell faulty?

Not necessarily — check the filter condition first. A partially clogged filter makes the motor work harder, drawing more current per minute of runtime than a clean filter would. We measured noticeably higher current draw on the 488A motor board with a dirty filter versus a clean one at the same load. Fit a clean filter, run a full charge-to-depletion cycle, and compare; if runtime is still short after that, verify the charger is reaching a full 14.4V termination before removing the vacuum from the dock.
