Fits Klarstein M-288 and Cleanfriend M-488 cordless vacuum cleaners as OEM replacement.
14.4V 3000mAh Ni-MH pack delivers full motor torque on restricted airflow without premature voltage sag.
Slides into battery slot vertically with locking tab engagement — no adapter needed for either model.
We bench-tested this cell under sustained motor load; BMS stayed stable through filter-blocked suction cycles.
Remove this battery from the dock immediately after charging completes — continuous trickle charge degrades Ni-MH capacity fast.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Klarstein M-288 / M-488 Cleanfriend — 14.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 14.4V 3000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Klarstein M-288 and Cleanfriend Cleaner M-488 cordless stick vacuums. It slots into the battery compartment and restores suction power when the original cell has lost capacity from age or charge cycling. Capacity is rated at 43.2Wh — matching the original specification.

  • M-288 and M-488 compatibility: Both models run the same 14.4V battery rail and use an identical physical housing with the same connector orientation. One replacement cell covers both units without any modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through the vacuum's motor draw under load — including carpet and crevice tool use — and confirmed the BMS held without tripping on normal sustained suction demand.
  • Dock charging habit on these vacuums: Do not leave the M-288 or M-488 sitting on the charging dock permanently. These units use a simple trickle charge circuit that does not cut off automatically at full. Continuous dock time degrades Ni-MH cells faster than deliberate charge-and-remove cycles. Charge fully, then lift the unit off the dock.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

Ni-MH cells under partial discharge can show adequate indicator voltage while actual capacity under motor load has already dropped. The M-288 motor draws harder when airflow is restricted — a partially blocked filter forces higher current, which causes voltage sag earlier in the discharge curve. This makes the vacuum feel like it's losing suction prematurely even though the indicator still reads mid-range. Clean the filter first, then retest — a clear airpath reduces motor draw and flattens the sag.

Motor cuts out mid-use then recovers after a short pause

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When suction is restricted — blocked nozzle, saturated filter, or hair wrap at the brush roll — the motor pulls beyond the BMS current limit and the cell disconnects to protect itself. After 30–60 seconds the BMS resets and power returns. Clear the blockage at the nozzle and brush roll, then check that the filter is clean before running the vacuum again. If the trip repeats with a clear airpath, measure resting voltage — a healthy cell at full charge should read at least 16.8V open circuit.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Klarstein M-288 loses suction halfway through a clean but the battery light still shows full — what's happening?

The battery indicator reads cell voltage at rest, not under motor load. When the filter is partially blocked, the motor pulls more current and voltage sags early in the discharge curve — suction drops while the indicator still looks fine. Pull the filter out, clean it thoroughly, and retest. A clear filter drops motor draw back to rated current and the sag disappears.

The vacuum cuts out after a minute of use, then works again if I wait — is the battery faulty?

That's a BMS overcurrent trip, not a failed cell. Restricted airflow — a blocked nozzle, full dust cup, or hair-wrapped brush roll — forces the motor to draw above the BMS threshold, so the cell disconnects to protect itself. Clear every restriction point before assuming the battery is the cause. If it still trips with a completely clear airpath, check open-circuit voltage: a fully charged 14.4V Ni-MH pack should read at least 16.8V.

The replacement battery charged up fine but the vacuum seems to run out of power much faster than the old one did at its best — is something wrong?

A new Ni-MH cell typically needs three to five full charge-and-discharge cycles before it reaches rated capacity. Charge fully, run the vacuum until suction noticeably weakens, then recharge — repeat that cycle a few times. Also confirm you're removing the unit from the dock once the charge light indicates full, since continuous dock time on these vacuums causes trickle-charge damage that shortens usable capacity from the start.
