Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Advent 7201 / 7301 Series — 11.1V Li-ion Replacement Battery (SQU-702)

This is an 11.1V, 4400mAh Li-ion battery for the Advent 7201, 7211, 7301, and 7302 notebook computers. It replaces OEM part numbers SQU-702 and SQU-703, among others. Capacity is 48.84Wh — matching the original cell specification for these models.

  • 7201 / 7211 / 7301 / 7302 compatibility: These four models share the same 11.1V battery rail, physical connector, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell fits all four because the charge controller IC and cutoff thresholds are identical across the range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a 7301 unit. The BMS negotiated correctly, charge current ramped as expected, and the protection circuit tripped cleanly at low-voltage cutoff — no false shutdowns at partial state of charge.
  • Post-install discharge cycle on Advent laptops: After fitting this battery, run one full discharge through to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap on these machines.

BIOS reporting poor battery health immediately after fitting a new cell

The Advent 7201 series BIOS reads health data stored in the battery's EEPROM, not from live cell measurements. When a new battery arrives, the EEPROM may carry default or mismatched values that the BIOS interprets as degraded. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. Running one full discharge-to-hibernate then a complete uninterrupted charge forces the BIOS to rewrite its learned capacity data against the new cell. After two to three full cycles, the health indicator normalises.

Laptop shuts down at 20–30% charge shown on screen

This happens when the fuel gauge IC hasn't yet calibrated to the new cell's actual voltage curve. The OS shows 20–30% remaining, but the cell voltage has already dropped below the load threshold under combined CPU and display draw. The gauge is reading against the old cell's profile. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate cycles back-to-back — by the second cycle, the fuel gauge IC recalibrates and the shutdown point drops to near 0% as expected. Verify recovery by checking the reported voltage in the OS power settings — it should read above 10.8V at 15% shown.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Advent 7301 shows the new battery as "unknown" or 0% in Windows — is the cell faulty?

No — this is an EEPROM mismatch. The Windows fuel gauge IC is reading stored data from the old battery profile, not live data from the new cell. Run one full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. After that first complete cycle, Windows re-reads the cell and the gauge populates correctly.

The system info screen shows the wrong Wh rating for this battery — it says something lower than 48.84Wh.

The Wh figure shown in system info pulls from EEPROM data written at the factory, which sometimes reflects a conservative rated value rather than the actual cell chemistry. This is a firmware reporting difference, not a capacity shortfall. The cell delivers its full 48.84Wh — the discrepancy is in the stored register, not the chemistry. Run two full charge/discharge cycles and the BIOS-learned value will update closer to the real figure.

New battery charges to 80% then stops — charger light stays on but percentage won't climb.

Some Advent BIOS versions include a charge-limit setting that caps charging at 80% to reduce cell stress during prolonged mains use. Check the BIOS power settings menu under the battery or AC adapter section — look for a "battery charge threshold" or "eco charge" option and set it to 100%. If no such option exists, discharge the battery below 20% and reconnect the charger — this clears the charge-limit latch and allows a full charge to complete.
