Fits AEG QX9-1-40, QX9-1-40GG, QX9-1-P4GG cordless stick vacuums; replaces OEM part 405 54 78-29/3.
21.6V lithium-ion pack with 2000mAh capacity delivers steady motor voltage during sustained suction on carpets and hard floors.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with a single locking tab; orientation is keyed, one direction only.
We bench-tested this cell on a QX9-1-40 under sustained blockage cycles — BMS held at 21.6V until cutoff, no premature sag.
Remove the battery from the dock immediately after reaching full charge; continuous trickle charging reduces capacity retention on this platform significantly.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

AEG QX9-1-40 Series — 21.6V Li-ion Replacement Battery (405 54 78-29/3)

This 21.6V, 2000mAh Li-ion battery pack replaces the original cell in the AEG QX9-1-40, QX9-1-40GG, and QX9-1-P4GG cordless stick vacuums. It fits the same connector and communicates with the same BMS as the factory unit. Capacity matches the original at 43.2Wh — no modifications needed.

  • QX9-1-40 series compatibility: All three models in this range share the same 21.6V cell architecture, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. Swapping between them does not require any adapter or firmware change.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the QX9-1-40 motor under sustained load and restricted airflow. The BMS held voltage above cutoff through normal operating draw and tripped cleanly on simulated blockage — no false shutdowns at full suction.
  • Dock charging behaviour on the QX9-1-40: Do not leave the vacuum sitting on the charging dock between uses. The QX9-1-40 dock does not stop current when the pack reaches full — continuous trickle charge accelerates capacity fade on Li-ion cells. Charge fully, then remove from the dock.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

This happens when the motor is working harder than rated — usually a partially blocked filter forcing higher current draw. That extra draw pulls cell voltage down faster than the indicator tracks, so the vacuum feels weak while the LED still shows two or three bars. The BMS reads actual cell voltage, not the indicator display. Clean or replace the filter first — if suction recovers, the battery is not the cause.

Motor cutting out mid-clean then restarting after a few seconds

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When airflow is restricted — by a full dustbin, a clogged filter, or a blocked nozzle — the motor draws a sustained current spike the BMS interprets as a fault. It cuts power to protect the cells, then resets once current drops. Empty the dustbin, clear the filter, and check the nozzle inlet before assuming the battery is faulty. If the problem stops after clearing the restriction, the pack is functioning correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

My AEG QX9-1-40 had good suction with the original battery but the replacement cuts out within seconds of switching to max power — what's wrong?

The QX9-1-40 BMS trips on overcurrent if it sees a sustained high-draw spike, which is more likely to happen when the filter is even slightly restricted — max power mode pushes the motor close to its current ceiling. We saw the same behaviour on the bench when we ran the pack with partial airflow blockage. Clear the filter completely and try again on max power. If it still cuts out, check that cell voltage is at least 21.6V fully charged before use.

The vacuum works fine but after a few months the charge seems to drop off much faster than when I first installed the replacement — did I get a bad pack?

Probably not a faulty cell — this pattern almost always comes from leaving the vacuum on the dock continuously between uses. The QX9-1-40 charging dock does not cut off when the pack is full, so the cells sit under a slow trickle charge for hours or days at a time, which degrades Li-ion capacity faster than normal cycling would. Charge the battery only when the vacuum needs it, and remove it from the dock once the indicator shows full. You should see stable capacity across cycles when charged that way.

The suction on my QX9-1-40 feels weak even on a full charge, but the battery indicator shows full — is this a battery problem or something else?

Weak suction on a full charge almost always points to a blocked filter or full dustbin rather than a failing cell. A restricted filter forces the motor to draw more current, which sags cell voltage under load faster — the vacuum feels underpowered even though the pack is fully charged. Remove and tap out the filter, empty the dustbin, and check the nozzle inlet for debris. If suction returns to normal after clearing the restriction, the battery is fine.
