  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC recalibrate against the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging pushes current into an uncalibrated cell.

Why the B10 reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap

The B10's fuel gauge IC builds a discharge model based on the old cell's impedance and capacity curve. When a new cell goes in, that model is still calibrated to the worn cell. The OS reads the coulomb counter data and displays percentages that don't match the actual state of charge. One full discharge down to auto-shutoff followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% resets the reference points and brings the percentage display back into line.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

This happens when the modem or display pulls a current spike and the cell voltage drops below the BMS low-voltage cutoff threshold — typically around 3.0V under load — even though the fuel gauge still shows charge remaining. A new cell with an uncalibrated fuel gauge IC is especially prone to this during the first few cycles. Run the phone through two full discharge-to-shutoff cycles without interruption. After those cycles, the coulomb counter recalibrates and the cutoff behaviour stabilises.

If a Li-ion cell drops below roughly 2.5V during storage, the BMS enters lockout mode to prevent unsafe recovery charging. Plug the B10 into a wall charger — not a PC USB port — and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC on the B10 runs a trickle pre-charge sequence that slowly brings the cell voltage up to the threshold where the BMS will re-initialise. If the charge LED comes on and stays on, the cell is recovering; let it reach at least 3.6V before attempting to boot.

Fast charging stopped working on the Coolpad B10 after fitting this replacement battery — is something wrong?

On the first cycle after a cell swap, the B10's charge IC sometimes defaults to standard charging rather than accepting the fast charge handshake. This is the charge IC being cautious with an uncalibrated cell — it hasn't yet confirmed the cell can handle high current without voltage sag. Complete one full standard charge to 100%, then discharge normally and charge again. Fast charge protocol should reinitiate on the second or third cycle once the IC has logged the cell's impedance response.

The battery percentage on the Coolpad B10 jumps around erratically — it dropped from 60% to 15% in minutes. What causes that?

The fuel gauge IC on the B10 is still using the discharge model it built for the old, degraded cell. A fresh cell has lower internal impedance and a different voltage-versus-capacity curve, so the coulomb counter misreads state of charge and the percentage display becomes unreliable. Run one complete discharge cycle — use the phone normally until it shuts itself off — then charge uninterrupted to 100%. That single full cycle gives the fuel gauge IC enough data to rebuild an accurate model against the new cell's actual curve.
