Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

American DJ WIFLY BAR QA5 — 22.2V Li-ion Replacement Battery (Z-WIB236)
This is a 22.2V 7800mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the American DJ WIFLY BAR QA5 wireless LED bar. It fits the QA5 directly and matches the OEM Z-WIB236 specification. Capacity figure is drawn from product data at 173.16Wh.
- WIFLY BAR QA5 fit: The QA5 uses a 6S Li-ion pack at 22.2V nominal to feed the onboard LED driver. The connector pinout and BMS handshake on this replacement match the original Z-WIB236 pack, so the fixture accepts it without flagging a battery fault on startup.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on the QA5 platform. The BMS held cell balance across all six series cells and tripped protective cutoff at the correct low-voltage threshold without triggering a false fault on the fixture's battery status circuit.
- Pre-show storage tip: Store the QA5 battery at roughly 50% state of charge if it will sit unused for more than two weeks. Full-charge storage at room temperature or above accelerates capacity fade in high-capacity 6S packs — the elevated voltage across all six cells speeds electrolyte degradation between gigs.
QA5 dimming before the battery indicator hits low
The WIFLY BAR QA5 LED driver operates in constant-current mode, which pulls harder on the battery as cell voltage drops under load. A pack with degraded capacity sags below the driver's regulation threshold before the battery indicator registers low — so the fixture steps output down to protect itself while the gauge still shows charge remaining. This is voltage sag, not a faulty indicator. A fresh 22.2V pack at full capacity holds the voltage rail stable enough for the driver to maintain full output through most of the discharge curve.
Battery not recognised by the QA5 after sitting in storage
If a Li-ion pack self-discharges below the fixture's acceptance threshold during storage, the QA5 ballast circuit will not initialise the battery and the unit may appear completely dead. The BMS inside the pack also has its own low-voltage lockout — once cells drop below roughly 2.5V per cell (15V pack total on a 6S), the BMS opens the output and refuses to communicate. Connect the pack to a Li-ion charger that supports a recovery or wake-up mode, allow it to trickle charge until the BMS closes the circuit, then perform a normal charge to 25.2V before reinstalling.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my WIFLY BAR QA5 dim or step down output while the battery gauge still shows charge?
The QA5's LED driver runs constant-current, so it pulls more current as the battery voltage sags under load. An ageing cell can't hold the 22.2V rail under that draw, and the fixture reduces output to stay within the driver's operating range — even while the indicator still reads mid-charge. This is cell voltage sag, not a faulty display. Swap in a fresh pack and check whether the output holds steady at full brightness; if it does, the old battery is the cause.
The QA5 shows an error or battery fault code immediately after I installed the replacement — what clears it?
The QA5 ballast firmware runs a battery check on power-up and can latch a fault if it detects an interruption during the swap, such as a brief low-voltage event when the connector was unseated. Power the fixture completely off, wait 10 seconds for the capacitors to drain, then power back on. If the fault clears, the battery is fine — the ballast just needs a cold restart to re-run its initialisation sequence. If the fault persists after two cold restarts, confirm the pack is fully charged to 25.2V before trying again.
My WIFLY BAR QA5 battery charges slowly or stops charging well before full — is the pack damaged?
A 6S Li-ion pack that cuts charging early usually has one or more cells that have drifted out of balance. The BMS terminates the charge cycle when the first cell hits 4.2V, even if the other five are still below that — so the pack never reaches its full 25.2V and you lose usable capacity. We confirmed this pack's BMS actively balances cells during the charge cycle on the QA5 platform. If your original battery is doing this, check the pack voltage with a multimeter after a full charge; anything below 24.5V on a supposedly full pack points to cell imbalance or capacity loss, and replacement is the fix.
