Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Archos 50 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (AC50PL)
This is a 3.7V, 1800mAh Li-ion replacement cell for the Archos 50, 50 Platinum, 50 Helium 4G, and Platinum 50 smartphones. It fits devices using the OEM part number AC50PL. Swap it in when the original cell no longer holds a usable charge across a normal day.
- 50 Series model compatibility: The 50, 50 Platinum, 50 Helium 4G, and Platinum 50 share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake — all four accept the AC50PL cell without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the AC50PL through full charge and discharge cycles on the bench. The BMS accepted charge from standard 5V USB, cutoff cleanly at 4.2V, and tripped undervoltage protection at the expected low-cell threshold without false triggers.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first cycle: After installing this cell, disable fast charging and run one full discharge down to auto-shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This gives the fuel gauge IC one clean cycle to map its coulomb counter against the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging begins.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Archos 50 after a cell swap
This is a voltage-cliff failure, not a capacity problem. The fuel gauge IC still holds calibration data from the old, degraded cell — so when the new cell's actual terminal voltage drops under modem or screen load, the phone hits real undervoltage before the percentage counter reaches zero. The BMS trips and the device cuts out. One full discharge-to-shutdown followed by an uninterrupted charge to 4.2V resets the coulomb counter to the new cell's curve and eliminates the premature cutoff.
Archos 50 shows incorrect battery percentage after replacement
The fuel gauge IC calibrates itself against a cell's measured discharge curve over time. When you swap in a fresh AC50PL cell, the IC is still running the old degraded cell's curve — so reported percentage drifts away from actual state of charge, often jumping several points at once. This is not a faulty cell. Run two complete discharge-charge cycles without interruption and the IC recalibrates against the new cell. After the second full cycle, percentage reporting stabilises and tracks accurately.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Archos 50 won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for months — is the cell dead?
Most likely the BMS has tripped into lockout after the cell self-discharged below 2.5V during storage. Connect the phone to a 5V USB charger and leave it untouched for 20–30 minutes — the charge IC applies a trickle current to bring the cell voltage back above the BMS recovery threshold before normal charging starts. If the charge indicator light appears within that window, the cell is recovering normally. If there is no response after 45 minutes, check that the connector is fully seated against the board.
The Archos 50 feels warm near the battery during the first few charges with the new cell — should I be concerned?
A fresh high-impedance cell generates slightly more heat than a broken-in one because the charge IC is pushing current into a cell that hasn't yet settled its internal resistance. We measured this on the bench and temperatures stayed within the operating range specified for Li-ion chemistry. The warmth typically reduces after three to four full cycles as internal resistance drops. If the phone becomes hot to the touch rather than just warm, disconnect immediately and check that the battery connector is not partially unseated.
Fast charging stopped working on my Archos 50 right after I installed the AC50PL — the phone only trickle charges now.
On the first cycle after a cell swap, the charge IC sometimes defaults to a conservative constant-current profile while it verifies BMS communication with the new cell. This is normal protective behaviour, not a fault. Run the phone through one complete discharge to auto-shutdown and then charge it fully via the original cable and adapter. The charge IC re-negotiates the current profile on the second cycle, and fast charging resumes once the BMS handshake is confirmed at a stable cell voltage above 3.6V.
