Fits AT&T Z998 smartphone; replaces original 3.8V lithium-ion cell pack.
3.8V, 2000mAh capacity restores full charge cycles on the Z998 platform.
Connector slides straight into the Z998 battery slot; no locking tab required.
We bench-tested this cell on Z998 load simulation; BMS accepted handshake on first insertion.
On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle — this lets the fuel gauge IC recalibrate against the new cell discharge curve before high-current charging pushes current into an uncalibrated cell.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

AT&T Z998 — 3.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This is a 3.8V, 2000mAh Li-ion battery for the AT&T Z998 smartphone. It replaces the original cell when capacity has dropped, charging has become inconsistent, or the battery no longer holds a charge. Dimensions are 58.35 x 51.20 x 5.50mm — verify clearance before installation.

  • Z998 cell match: The Z998 uses a single-cell Li-ion configuration at 3.8V nominal. This replacement matches that voltage rail exactly — the charge IC on the Z998 will reject cells outside its accepted input range, so voltage tolerance matters.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge under screen-on and modem-active loads. The BMS held cutoff correctly at the low-voltage threshold and did not trip during the high-current draw of LTE data bursts.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration after install: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-charge cycle at standard rate. This lets the fuel gauge IC build an accurate discharge curve against the new cell before the charge IC pushes high current into an uncalibrated state.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Z998 after a cell swap

The Z998 fuel gauge IC retains the discharge curve of the old cell. When a new cell with different internal impedance goes in, the gauge misreads remaining capacity. Voltage drops faster than the IC expects under modem or screen load, and the device shuts off before the display reaches 0%. One full discharge-charge cycle at standard current rewrites the coulomb counter reference and corrects the cutoff point.

Device not powering on after the battery sat in storage

Li-ion cells in storage self-discharge over time. If the cell drops below approximately 2.5V, the BMS locks out to prevent damage — the phone will not respond to a power button press or show a charging indicator. Connect the Z998 to a wall adapter and leave it untouched for 15–30 minutes. The charge IC on the phone will trickle current into the cell until voltage clears the BMS lockout threshold, after which normal charging resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my AT&T Z998 show the wrong battery percentage after I put in the new battery?

The fuel gauge IC on the Z998 was calibrated against the discharge curve of the original cell. A new cell has different internal impedance, so the coulomb counter misreads state-of-charge from the first cycle. Run one complete discharge — use the phone until it shuts off automatically — then charge to 100% at standard rate without interruption. That single cycle gives the fuel gauge IC enough data to recalibrate and the percentage readings will stabilise.

The Z998 shuts off suddenly at around 25% — is the new battery defective?

This is a voltage cliff issue, not a defective cell. Under high-current loads like an active LTE connection or a bright screen, the cell voltage sags faster than the fuel gauge expects based on the old calibration. The device interprets that sag as a dead battery and cuts power. Complete one full discharge-charge cycle at standard current — no fast charging — and the fuel gauge IC will map the new cell's actual voltage-to-capacity curve, which stops the early shutoff.

Fast charging stopped working on my Z998 after replacing the battery — what happened?

On the first cycle with a new cell, the charge IC on the Z998 may not handshake correctly with the USB charging protocol while the BMS is in its initial calibration state. This causes the device to fall back to standard charge current. Discharge the phone to auto-shutoff, then charge fully at standard rate using a basic 5V charger — not a fast-charge adapter. After that first complete cycle, reconnect a fast-charge adapter and the protocol negotiation should complete normally.
