Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

SkyGolf SkyCaddie SGXw / SGX Series — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (GPS0320MG051)
This 3.7V, 2000mAh lithium-polymer cell replaces the original battery in the SkyGolf SkyCaddie SGXw, SGX-W, and SGX GPS rangefinder units. The SGXw is a handheld golf GPS device that shows yardages, hazard distances, and course layouts during a round. At 69.95 × 50.04 × 4.50mm, this cell matches the original form factor and connector for a direct fit.
- SGXw / SGX series compatibility: These models share the same battery bay dimensions, 3.7V supply rail, and OEM connector pinout. The BMS on each unit communicates with the cell to manage charge cutoff and low-voltage shutoff — this cell's protection circuit matches those thresholds.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on GPS hardware at the same voltage class. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, charge cutoff triggered correctly at 4.2V, and low-voltage protection engaged before the cell could be damaged by deep discharge.
- First fix after battery swap: After fitting this cell, power the SGXw on outdoors before your round and let it acquire a satellite fix completely. GPS units perform a cold start after any full power interruption — first fix after a battery swap takes 5–10 minutes; subsequent warm starts drop to under a minute once almanac data is cached.
GPS accuracy reduced at low battery on the SGXw
When battery voltage drops toward the lower threshold, the SGXw reduces power to the GPS receiver module to extend remaining charge. This cuts receiver sensitivity, which can cause yardage figures to update more slowly or show slightly erratic readings on tight doglegs or tree-lined holes. The fix is straightforward: charge the unit fully before the round. If yardage data becomes unreliable during play, the battery is likely below 3.5V and needs charging before the next use.
SGXw shuts off without a low-battery warning
After years of use, the original battery's capacity drops well below its rated level, but the device's charge indicator still reads off the voltage curve calibrated to a fresh cell. The result: the indicator shows two bars, then the unit cuts out mid-round with no prior warning. This happens because the BMS hits its voltage cutoff threshold before the visual indicator catches up. Replacing the cell resets the relationship between actual capacity and voltage curve. After the first full charge cycle on the new cell, the indicator will again give accurate early warning before cutoff.

Frequently Asked Questions
My SGXw lost all my saved courses after I swapped the battery — is that normal?
Yes. The SGXw stores some course data and settings in battery-backed RAM. When the cell is fully removed, that volatile memory loses power and resets. Downloaded course maps stored in flash memory are usually retained, but home course settings and recent round data may clear. Reconnect to the SkyGolf portal after fitting the new battery and re-sync your course library to restore full data.
The SGXw took nearly ten minutes to show yardages after I fitted the new battery — is something wrong with the cell?
Nothing is wrong with the cell. A full cold start is normal after any battery removal because the GPS almanac and ephemeris data — the satellite position tables the receiver uses to get a fast fix — are lost when power is cut. The SGXw has to reacquire that data from scratch, which takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with clear sky view. Walk to your first tee with the unit powered on and it will be locked and showing accurate yardages before you reach the box.
The new battery drains noticeably faster when I have the SGXw in active navigation mode versus just carrying it in my pocket — why?
Active navigation runs the GPS receiver and backlit display simultaneously — those two components together draw significantly more current than the device pulling in standby. The receiver alone pulls consistent current to maintain satellite lock and refresh position every few seconds. Reduce display brightness to its lowest usable setting during your round and power the unit off between holes if the course is one you know well. That reduces average draw and extends charge across a full 18 holes.
