Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

RAC 5000 WIDE — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (LP053443 1S1P)
This is a 3.7V 750mAh lithium-polymer cell for the RAC 5000 WIDE portable GPS navigator. It replaces the original LP053443 1S1P battery when the device fails to hold charge or powers off unexpectedly. Dimensions are 46.74 × 34.60 × 5.90mm — confirm these against your existing cell before fitting.
- RAC 5000 WIDE compatibility: This cell matches the voltage rail and physical footprint of the original LP053443 1S1P. The BMS on this unit monitors cell voltage directly — swapping an off-spec cell can trigger premature low-battery warnings or cause the device to refuse to boot.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on GPS navigator hardware. The protection circuit held cutoff at the correct low-voltage threshold and the charge controller accepted a standard 4.2V charge termination without fault flags.
- Cold-start behaviour after fitting: After fitting this cell, power the unit on outdoors and let it acquire a satellite fix before driving. A full power interruption resets the GPS almanac to a cold start — first fix can take 5–10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts resolve in under a minute once the almanac is rebuilt.
GPS accuracy reduced at low battery on the RAC 5000 WIDE
Some GPS units step down receiver sensitivity as cell voltage drops toward the cutoff threshold. On the RAC 5000 WIDE, this can appear as position drift or slower route recalculation before the low-battery indicator even triggers. The receiver draws more current during active satellite tracking than during standby, which accelerates voltage sag on a degraded cell. A fresh 750mAh cell at full charge maintains the voltage headroom the receiver needs to stay at full sensitivity throughout a journey.
Device shuts off without warning before the battery indicator hits zero
This is a calibration issue between the fuel gauge and the actual cell capacity. After fitting a new battery, the on-device charge indicator is still calibrated to the degraded old cell — it can show 20% remaining when the true cell voltage is already at the BMS cutoff threshold of around 3.0V. Run two or three full charge-to-shutdown cycles to let the firmware recalibrate the indicator against the new cell's actual capacity curve. After recalibration, the low-battery warning will trigger with enough headroom to save your route before shutdown.

Frequently Asked Questions
My RAC 5000 WIDE lost all my saved routes after I replaced the battery — is that normal?
Yes, and it happens because some GPS navigators store saved routes and POIs in battery-backed volatile RAM rather than permanent flash memory. When the battery is fully removed, that RAM loses power and its contents are wiped. Before swapping the battery next time, export your routes via the device's transfer or backup function if the firmware supports it. If routes are already gone, they cannot be recovered — re-enter them or sync from a paired app if one was in use.
Satellite lock is taking 5–10 minutes after fitting the new battery — was something damaged?
Nothing is damaged. Removing the battery clears the GPS almanac — the stored data the receiver uses to predict where satellites are in the sky. Without that data, the unit must do a cold start and download a fresh almanac from scratch, which takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Once the almanac is rebuilt and saved, every subsequent start from that location will lock in under a minute. Leave the device stationary outdoors for the first fix after fitting.
The RAC 5000 WIDE drains noticeably faster when actively navigating versus sitting on the desk — is the new battery faulty?
The battery is working as expected. Active navigation runs the GPS receiver and the display simultaneously — on a 750mAh cell, that combined draw is significantly higher than standby current. Screen brightness is the fastest lever to reduce drain: dropping the display to half brightness during a long route has a measurable effect on how long the charge lasts. If drain is severe even at low brightness, check that the unit is not stuck in a satellite-search loop, which keeps the receiver at peak current draw continuously.
