This is a 7.2V, 3000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Bissell 2880 cordless handheld vacuum. It fits the 2880, 2880W, 2880A, and 2880B, along with eight additional variants in the same family. When original cells degrade and suction drops earlier each session, this swap restores the power the motor needs to run at full draw.

• 2880 family compatibility: All models in this series share the same 7.2V cell configuration, connector pinout, and motor drive circuit. Swapping between 2880 variants requires no wiring changes — the battery seats and connects identically across the range.

Ni-MH cells don't fail all at once — individual cells in the pack lose capacity unevenly. When one cell drops below the others, the pack voltage sags under motor load before the indicator circuit registers a low reading. The motor starves for voltage while the display still shows partial charge. Replacing the pack eliminates cell imbalance and restores consistent voltage delivery throughout the full discharge cycle.

Motor cutting out mid-session and then recovering after a pause

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. On the 2880, a blocked filter forces the motor to pull harder against restricted airflow — sustained high current triggers the protection circuit, and the motor shuts off. After a short pause the BMS resets and power returns. Clean or replace the filter first. If the trip still occurs on a clear filter with a fresh battery, check that the inlet path is fully unobstructed before drawing more than 7.2V rated load.
