Fits Bissell 2880, 2880W, 2880A, 2880B cordless handheld vacuums; direct OEM replacement for original Ni-MH pack.
7.2V Ni-MH chemistry delivers 3000mAh capacity; voltage sag under heavy motor load is normal for this chemistry on restricted intake.
Connector slides straight into battery slot with single locking tab; orientation is keyed so reverse insertion is impossible.
We bench-cycled this cell on a 2880 motor load rig; BMS accepted charge without fault codes and discharged evenly across the pack.
Do not leave this vacuum on the charging dock after the battery reaches full — continuous trickle charge accelerates capacity fade in Ni-MH cells significantly faster than charge-and-remove cycles.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Bissell 2880 Series — 7.2V Ni-MH 3000mAh Replacement Battery

This is a 7.2V, 3000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Bissell 2880 cordless handheld vacuum. It fits the 2880, 2880W, 2880A, and 2880B, along with eight additional variants in the same family. When original cells degrade and suction drops earlier each session, this swap restores the power the motor needs to run at full draw.

  • 2880 family compatibility: All models in this series share the same 7.2V cell configuration, connector pinout, and motor drive circuit. Swapping between 2880 variants requires no wiring changes — the battery seats and connects identically across the range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a 2880 unit and confirmed the BMS holds voltage stable under sustained motor load. The protection circuit tripped correctly on overcurrent and recovered cleanly once load was removed.
  • Dock charging habit on the 2880: Do not leave the 2880 sitting on the dock after the charge cycle completes. Cordless handheld vacuums on continuous dock charge accumulate trickle charge damage that compresses usable capacity over weeks. Charge to full, then remove from the dock.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator shows low on the 2880

Ni-MH cells don't fail all at once — individual cells in the pack lose capacity unevenly. When one cell drops below the others, the pack voltage sags under motor load before the indicator circuit registers a low reading. The motor starves for voltage while the display still shows partial charge. Replacing the pack eliminates cell imbalance and restores consistent voltage delivery throughout the full discharge cycle.

Motor cutting out mid-session and then recovering after a pause

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. On the 2880, a blocked filter forces the motor to pull harder against restricted airflow — sustained high current triggers the protection circuit, and the motor shuts off. After a short pause the BMS resets and power returns. Clean or replace the filter first. If the trip still occurs on a clear filter with a fresh battery, check that the inlet path is fully unobstructed before drawing more than 7.2V rated load.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Bissell 2880 loses suction well before the battery light shows it's low — is that the battery or something else?

With Ni-MH packs, individual cells degrade at different rates. One weak cell drags pack voltage down under motor load before the indicator circuit notices — so suction drops while the display still reads partial charge. A filter blockage can make it worse by pushing motor draw higher. Replace the pack and confirm the filter is clear; if suction holds steady after that, the cell imbalance was the cause.

My 2880 shuts off mid-clean and then comes back on after I wait a minute — what's happening?

That pause-and-recover pattern is the BMS overcurrent protection tripping. When airflow is restricted — usually a clogged filter or blocked inlet — the motor pulls more current than the protection circuit allows, and it cuts power to prevent damage. Check and clean the filter before your next session. If the cutout stops after clearing the filter, the battery and BMS are both working correctly.

My replacement battery charged fully but the 2880 feels weaker than it used to — did the new battery arrive partially degraded?

Ni-MH cells ship in a partial state of charge and often need two or three full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. Run the vacuum until suction noticeably weakens, charge to full, and repeat. If the pack still feels short after three cycles, check that the charger output is hitting the 7.2V rail — a charger delivering low voltage will undercharge the pack every time.
