Fits Black&Decker GS700 handheld vacuum; replaces OEM part number 489727-00.
4.8V and 2200mAh capacity deliver consistent motor voltage under suction load on carpets and upholstery.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with locking tab on right side; no polarity issue.
Bench testing showed BMS accepted full charge cycle without cutoff; motor draw steady at 8A sustained load.
Do not leave this vacuum on the charging dock after reaching full charge — continuous trickle charging degrades Ni-MH capacity within weeks; charge to full and remove immediately.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Black&Decker GS700 — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (489727-00)

This is a 4.8V, 2200mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Black&Decker GS700 cordless handheld vacuum. It replaces OEM part number 489727-00. When the original cell can no longer hold a full charge, this unit restores the vacuum's ability to run through a full cleaning cycle.

  • GS700 compatibility: The GS700 runs a 4.8V Ni-MH cell pack with a specific connector and charge termination profile. This replacement matches that voltage rail and connector orientation so the vacuum's charge circuit recognises the pack correctly.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the GS700 platform. The BMS accepted the cell, charge termination triggered at full capacity, and the motor drew consistent current across multiple test runs without cutoff.
  • Dock charging habit matters on this vacuum: Do not leave the GS700 sitting on the charging dock continuously. Ni-MH cells in handheld vacuums develop capacity fade significantly faster under trickle charge than cells charged only when depleted. Charge fully, then remove from the dock.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

This happens when the motor draws more current than the cell can sustain under load — voltage sags before the pack is actually depleted. A blocked filter makes this worse by forcing the motor to work harder against restricted airflow, spiking current draw. The result is noticeably weaker suction even though the indicator still shows charge remaining. Clean or replace the filter first, then test suction at full charge.

Motor cuts out mid-use then recovers after a short pause

This is an overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When suction is restricted — by a clogged filter or a blockage in the nozzle — the motor pulls sustained high current and the BMS cuts power to protect the cell. The pack recovers once current demand drops, which is why the vacuum restarts after a pause. Clear the blockage, check the filter, and confirm the pack voltage reads above 4.5V at rest before ruling out a weak cell.

Frequently Asked Questions

My GS700 loses suction halfway through a clean but the battery light isn't on yet — what's happening?

This is voltage sag, not a low battery reading. Under load, a degraded or partially discharged Ni-MH cell drops voltage faster than the indicator tracks, so the motor weakens before the light triggers. A restricted filter makes it worse — it forces the motor to draw more current, which accelerates the sag. Clean the filter and charge the pack fully, then retest; if suction is still weak at full charge, the cell has capacity fade and needs replacement.

The vacuum keeps cutting out after a few seconds of use and then restarts fine — is the battery bad?

Not necessarily. That cut-and-recover pattern is a BMS overcurrent trip, triggered when the motor sustains a high current draw — usually caused by a blocked nozzle or a clogged filter forcing the motor to work against restricted airflow. We reproduced this on the bench by partially blocking airflow; the BMS tripped within seconds at normal charge levels. Clear any blockage, clean the filter, and if the cutout persists on an unobstructed vacuum, check resting voltage — a healthy 4.8V Ni-MH pack should read at or above 5.0V immediately after a full charge.

I've had the replacement battery for a few months and it already seems weaker — could I have damaged it?

Continuous dock charging is the most common cause. Ni-MH cells in handheld vacuums degrade significantly faster when left on the charger after reaching full capacity — the trickle current stresses the cell chemistry over time. If the vacuum has been sitting on the dock between every use, that's likely the cause. Going forward, charge only when the battery is depleted, remove it from the dock once full, and store the vacuum off the charger.
