Fits Cable & Wireless CWR 2200, CWD 4800, and CWD 5900 cordless phone handsets as direct replacement.
3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH chemistry restores full talk time and standby performance lost to aged batteries.
Connector slides straight into handset battery slot with positive terminal forward; locking tab seats flat against housing.
We bench-tested this pack on a CWR 2200 base charger — BMS accepted voltage profile immediately, no fault cycling.
Place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use; Ni-MH cells reach rated capacity only after slow initial charge.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Cable & Wireless CWR 2200 / CWD 4800 / CWD 5900 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for the Cable & Wireless CWR 2200, CWD 4800, and CWD 5900 cordless DECT handsets. It slots into the handset battery compartment and restores power to the cordless phone when the original pack no longer holds a charge. Capacity is 700mAh (2.52Wh) — matching the original specification.

  • CWR 2200, CWD 4800, and CWD 5900 compatibility: All three models share the same 3.6V single-cell Ni-MH format and the same battery compartment footprint (45.90 × 31.20 × 10.70mm), so one battery cell type covers the full range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the bench. The cell voltage rose steadily to the 3.6V nominal and the base station accepted the charge handshake without fault on each cycle tested.
  • First-charge conditioning for Ni-MH: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before making calls. Ni-MH cells at storage voltage are below the threshold needed to reach rated capacity — skipping this step leaves you with noticeably reduced talk time from day one.

Talk time shorter than original battery after replacement

A fresh Ni-MH cell ships in a partially discharged state. The first three to five full charge–discharge cycles are conditioning cycles — capacity builds incrementally as the cell's crystalline structure fully activates. Expecting full talk time on the first charge is a common mistake. Run the handset to low battery, return it to the base for a full charge, and repeat this three to five times. By cycle four or five, talk time should reach the rated level.

Base station showing no charge or flashing error light after swap

After storage, a Ni-MH cell can sit below 3.0V — some Cable & Wireless base stations check incoming voltage before enabling the charge circuit, and a cell that reads too low trips a fault state instead of charging normally. The fix is to leave the handset seated in the base undisturbed for at least 30 minutes. The trickle pre-charge stage brings the cell voltage up past the acceptance threshold, at which point the base resumes normal charging and the error light clears.

Frequently Asked Questions

My CWR 2200 handset won't pair with the base after I swapped the battery — did I break something?

No — this is a known behaviour on DECT cordless phones when power is fully removed from the handset. Removing the old battery drops the handset's memory, and some Cable & Wireless models lose their base registration as a result. Re-register the handset using the paging or registration button on the base station; the process takes under a minute and full pairing is restored.

The new battery drains completely overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — what's wrong?

This points to the handset not making solid contact with the base charging pins, not a battery fault. A slightly misaligned handset on the cradle draws standby current from the battery without completing the charge circuit. Lift the handset, check the metal contacts on both the battery and the base for any debris or oxidation, then reseat firmly until you hear or feel the handset click into position and the charge indicator lights up.

The handset range dropped noticeably after I put in the new battery — calls cut out further from the base than before.

Range drops when the transmit circuit can't draw enough current from the battery to sustain full RF power. With a new Ni-MH cell that hasn't been conditioned yet, voltage sags under the load of the DECT radio module. Run three to five full charge–discharge cycles to bring the cell up to rated capacity, and the voltage under RF load should stabilise. If range is still short after five cycles, check that the battery compartment contacts are clean and the cell voltage reads at or above 3.6V off the charger.
