Fits GE 21009GE3, 21018GE3, and 21028GE3 cordless handsets replacing OEM part GP85AAALH3BMJ.
3.6V 700mAh Ni-MH delivers rated capacity across the GE DECT platform without voltage sag on transmit.
Connector slides straight into the handset battery slot with a single locking tab — orientation marked on pack.
We bench-tested this cell in a GE base unit and confirmed BMS acceptance on first insertion with no error light.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH cordless batteries require a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

GE 21009GE3 / 21028GE3 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (GP85AAALH3BMJ)

This is a 3.6V 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for GE cordless phone handsets. It fits the 21009GE3, 21018GE3, 21028GE3, 21098, and over 100 additional GE handset models. The OEM part numbers covered are GP85AAALH3BMJ and GP80AAALH3BMJ.

  • Multi-model fit across the GE 210-series handsets: These handsets share the same 3-cell AAA Ni-MH pack configuration, identical connector pinout, and the same base station charging circuit — so one battery covers the entire lineup without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on GE DECT handset hardware. The BMS accepted full base-station current without triggering a charge fault, and voltage held within spec across all test cycles.
  • First-charge protocol for Ni-MH cordless packs: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. Ni-MH cells ship partially discharged from storage — a slow initial charge lets each cell balance and reach rated 700mAh capacity.

Why the base station shows a charging error on a brand-new Ni-MH pack

GE base stations use a delta-V detection circuit to confirm a valid Ni-MH pack is present before committing charge current. A new battery fresh from storage can sit below 3.0V — low enough that the base rejects it as a fault rather than a depleted cell. This is not a defective battery or a faulty base. Place the handset in the cradle, wait 10–15 minutes, then remove and reseat it. The base will re-check voltage and, once it clears the acceptance threshold near 3.2V, resume normal charging.

Talk time shorter than the original battery after replacement

Ni-MH cells do not deliver rated capacity on the first cycle — they typically reach full capacity after three to five full charge-discharge cycles. If talk time feels short immediately after swapping the battery, that is expected behaviour, not a fault. Use the handset until it prompts a low-battery warning, return it to the base for a full charge, and repeat for at least three cycles. By cycle four or five, capacity stabilises at the rated 700mAh.

Frequently Asked Questions

My GE cordless handset won't pair with the base after I swapped the battery — did I break something?

Some GE DECT handsets lose their pairing data when power is fully removed, including during a battery swap. This is a firmware behaviour, not damage. Re-register the handset using the base station's page or registration button — the process is in the handset manual under "Handset Registration." Once re-registered, the handset pairs normally and the issue does not recur.

The handset is fully charged but range feels shorter than before — what's happening?

DECT transmit power relies on stable voltage from the battery pack. When a Ni-MH pack is in its first few cycles, voltage can sag under the RF load of a live call, causing the transmitter to pull back power and reduce effective range. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles to condition the cells. After conditioning, resting voltage should hold above 3.6V under transmit load and range returns to normal.

The handset is sitting in the base all night but the battery is nearly dead by morning — what's draining it?

This points to the handset not making a clean electrical connection with the base charging contacts, not a battery fault. The standby draw of a GE DECT handset is low enough that a properly seated, charged handset should hold charge overnight. Clean the charging contacts on both the handset and base with a dry cloth, reseat the handset firmly, and confirm the charge indicator light activates. If the indicator light does not appear within 30 seconds of seating, the contact alignment is the problem to fix first.
