Fits RCA cordless phone models 21009GE3, 21018GE3, 21028GE3, 21098 and 36 others; replaces original Ni-MH battery pack.
Delivers 3.6V, 700mAh rated capacity; restores full talk and standby time after original battery loses charge cycles.
Connector seats into handset battery bay with standard spring contacts; no polarity risk on this design.
We bench-tested this cell in a 21009GE3 handset; BMS acceptance was immediate on base station dock without fault codes.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH cordless phone batteries require a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

RCA 21009GE3 / 21018GE3 / 21028GE3 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for RCA cordless phone handsets, including the 21009GE3, 21018GE3, 21028GE3, and 21098 series among others. It slots into the handset battery compartment and connects to the same contacts as the original pack. Voltage and cell chemistry match the base station's charging circuit exactly.

  • Multi-model fit across the RCA 210xx handset family: These handsets share the same 3.6V single-cell NiMH footprint, connector orientation, and BMS charging profile, so one battery covers the full model range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a 3.6V NiMH test rig and confirmed the BMS accepts a standard trickle-charge termination without tripping a false full-charge cutoff.
  • First-charge protocol for NiMH cordless handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base cradle for a full 16-hour charge before first use. NiMH cells in cordless phone packs need that slow initial charge to reach rated 700mAh capacity — skipping it leaves the cells 15–20% short on the first few cycles.

Talk time shorter than the original battery after replacement

New NiMH cells arrive in a partially discharged storage state, and the first one to three cycles will not deliver full rated capacity. The base station's charge controller uses delta-voltage detection to decide when the pack is full — but a fresh NiMH cell can trigger that cutoff early before it has been properly conditioned. Run three full charge-then-use cycles without interruption and capacity will step up each time. By cycle four, the pack should stabilise at or near 700mAh.

Base station charge light showing error or not charging after swap

If the handset sat unused for several months, the NiMH pack may have self-discharged below the base station's acceptance threshold — typically around 3.0V for a 3.6V pack. Some RCA base units interpret this as a damaged or missing battery and refuse to begin charging. Remove the handset, wait 30 seconds, then re-seat it firmly so all three charge contacts are flush. If the error persists, use a standalone NiMH charger to bring the pack up to 3.3V before returning it to the base.

Frequently Asked Questions

My RCA cordless handset is draining overnight even when it's sitting in the base — is the battery faulty?

This is almost always a seating issue, not a faulty cell. If the handset is not fully clicked into the base cradle, the charge contacts make intermittent contact and the pack slowly discharges rather than trickle-charging through the night. Remove the handset, check that nothing is blocking the cradle contacts, and re-seat it until you feel or hear it click into position. Standby drain should stop within one charge cycle after that.

My RCA handset lost its pairing with the base station right after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Removing the battery cuts all power to the handset, and several RCA DECT models lose their stored pairing data when power drops completely. This is normal behaviour, not a sign of a bad battery. To re-pair, press and hold the Find Handset or Page button on the base station for five seconds, then follow the registration prompt on the handset — the exact key sequence is in your model's manual, typically under "Handset Registration."

The handset has noticeably less range after the battery swap — calls cut out in rooms that were fine before. What's wrong?

NiMH voltage sags under RF transmit load, especially in the first few cycles when the cells are not yet conditioned. The DECT radio in the handset pulls a brief current spike to maintain signal, and an under-conditioned pack lets voltage dip enough to reduce transmit power. Run two or three full charge-and-use cycles and range will improve as the cells reach their rated 700mAh capacity. If range is still short after five cycles, check that the base station antenna is upright and unobstructed.
