Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Canon DM-MV100X Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP-511A)

This is a 7.4V, 1500mAh Li-ion replacement battery for Canon DM-MV series camcorders. It fits the DM-MV100X, DM-MV100Xi, DM-MV30, DM-MV400, and over 80 additional Canon camcorder models sharing the BP-5xx platform. OEM part numbers covered include BP-508, BP-511, BP-511A, BP-512, and BP-514.

  • BP-5xx platform compatibility: Canon's DM-MV and related camcorder lines share the same BP-5xx connector pinout, voltage rail, and BMS communication protocol. A cell built to this spec slots into any body in the family without hardware modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a BP-511A-compatible body. The BMS accepted the cell on first install, voltage held steady at 7.4V nominal under record load, and the protection circuit triggered correctly at low-voltage cutoff.
  • First-cycle initialisation on Canon bodies: Perform one full charge inside the OEM Canon charger or camera body before your first shoot. Canon's BMS maps the battery-remaining display against a charge curve it samples on that first cycle — skipping this step causes inaccurate percentage readouts through the cell's life.

Canon BMS rejecting a third-party cell on first install

Canon camcorders use a data pin on the BP-5xx connector to handshake with the battery before enabling power output. A new third-party cell occasionally triggers a rejection screen on first install — not because the cell is faulty, but because the BMS hasn't completed its initialisation read. Remove the battery, reinsert it, and place it in the OEM charger for a full charge cycle. After one complete charge from within a Canon-approved charger, most bodies accept the cell without further prompting.

Battery percentage jumping erratically during recording

Canon's fuel gauge maps percentage against a voltage-threshold table calibrated to the original BP-511A discharge curve. A replacement cell with a slightly different discharge profile causes the indicator to jump — showing 60%, then 80%, then 40% within minutes. This is a display mapping issue, not a fault in the cell. Run two full charge-discharge cycles in the camera body and the BMS recalibrates its table to the new cell's curve. After recalibration, the readout stabilises and tracks accurately from 8.4V full charge down to the 6.0V cutoff.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Canon camcorder shows a blinking battery icon and won't record even with a brand-new replacement cell — what's happening?

This is Canon's BMS authentication check firing on an unrecognised cell. The camera reads the data pin before enabling the record circuit, and a cell that hasn't been through a charge cycle in the OEM charger can fail that check. Remove the battery, insert it into a Canon-compatible charger, and run one full charge to completion. Reinsert into the camera body — the blinking icon clears and recording enables at that point.

The battery percentage on my DM-MV400 jumps from 70% to 30% in a few seconds — is the replacement cell faulty?

The cell itself is not faulty. Canon's percentage display reads voltage thresholds mapped to the original BP-511A discharge curve, and a new cell's curve sits slightly differently — causing the indicator to skip between thresholds erratically. Run two full charge-discharge cycles through the camera body to let the BMS sample the new curve and remap its table. After the second cycle the readout stabilises and tracks correctly down to the 6.0V low-voltage cutoff.

My shot count is noticeably lower in cold weather with the new battery — is that normal?

Li-ion cells lose available capacity as temperature drops because internal resistance rises and ion mobility slows. At temperatures below 10°C, effective capacity can drop meaningfully compared to rated 1500mAh at room temperature — this affects every Li-ion cell, including OEM. Keep the spare battery in an inner jacket pocket between shots to hold it near body temperature. Capacity returns to full spec when the cell warms back up to 20°C or above.
