Fits JVC GR-DVX34K and GR-DVX6K camcorders; replaces OEM part numbers BN-V306 and BN-V306U.
7.4V, 630mAh lithium-ion cell delivers 4.66Wh for recording and playback on professional mini-DV camcorders.
Connector is proprietary JVC cinch-mount; orientation locks when fully seated into the battery grip slot.
We bench-tested the BMS on first insertion into a GR-DVX6K; the cell accepted full charge without fault codes.
On first use with this battery, run one full charge cycle in the camera body before extended recording — the JVC BMS firmware requires an internal charge cycle to map the new cell's discharge curve to the remaining-time display.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

JVC GR-DVX34K / GR-DVX6K Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BN-V306)

This is a 7.4V, 630mAh Li-ion replacement for the JVC BN-V306 battery. It fits the GR-DVX34K, GR-DVX6K, GR-DVX507EG, GR-DVX407, and 16 additional JVC mini-DV camcorder models. Same voltage, same footprint, same connector as the original cell.

  • DVX series compatibility: All listed GR-DVX models share the BN-V306 voltage rail and battery bay dimensions. The connector orientation and BMS handshake protocol are consistent across the range, so one cell covers the full group.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a GR-DVX body. The BMS accepted the cell, reported state-of-charge correctly, and held voltage steady through recording load without triggering a premature cutoff.
  • First-install charge cycle: Insert the new cell and charge it fully inside the camera body or OEM charger before shooting. Some JVC BMS firmware requires one complete in-camera charge cycle to map the cell's discharge curve and display the battery-remaining indicator accurately.

Why the GR-DVX shows a dead battery icon on a partially charged replacement cell

JVC's BMS uses a voltage-threshold map calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve. A new third-party cell can sit slightly above or below those thresholds at rest, causing the camera to misread state-of-charge on first use. This shows up as a full-battery icon that drops to empty within a few minutes, or a dead-battery warning at what is actually 50% charge. Running one full charge-discharge cycle inside the camera body re-maps the thresholds to the new cell. After that cycle, the indicator tracks accurately through normal use.

Camera body rejecting the BN-V306 replacement on first install

Some GR-DVX bodies flash a no-battery warning or power off immediately when a new third-party cell is inserted cold. This is a BMS authentication check — the camera is reading the cell's resting voltage and comparing it against an expected range. If the cell shipped at a storage charge below 3.5V per cell (7.0V combined), the body may refuse it. Connect the battery to the OEM charger first, bring it to full charge, then insert it into the camera. That single charge cycle is usually enough for the body to accept and communicate with the cell normally.

Frequently Asked Questions

My GR-DVX34K battery percentage jumps from 80% straight to 10% with no warning — is the new cell faulty?

The cell is not faulty. JVC's battery indicator uses fixed voltage steps to estimate charge, and a new cell's discharge curve doesn't always align with those steps from the first cycle. The camera reads a voltage drop between two thresholds as a sudden percentage fall rather than a gradual one. Run one full charge-discharge cycle inside the camera body and the indicator will track the new cell's curve far more consistently.

The GR-DVX records fine indoors but the battery warning triggers much earlier when shooting outside in cold weather — what's happening?

Li-ion cells lose usable capacity as temperature drops because internal resistance rises, pulling terminal voltage down faster under load. On a 630mAh cell like the BN-V306, even mild cold — around 10°C — can cause the BMS to hit its low-voltage cutoff earlier than it would at room temperature. Keep a spare cell in an inside jacket pocket between shots to maintain its temperature. Swapping to the warmer cell mid-shoot lets both cells deliver closer to their rated capacity.

The GR-DVX powers on fine but cuts out the moment I press record — could this be a BMS trip?

Yes. Switching from standby to active recording spikes current draw across the sensor, processor, and tape transport simultaneously. If the cell's resting voltage sits near the BMS low-voltage threshold, that draw spike pulls terminal voltage below cutoff for a fraction of a second and the body shuts down. Charge the battery fully — confirmed full when the charger LED goes green — before attempting to record, and check that resting voltage on the cell reads at least 7.2V before inserting it.
