Fits Canon Wordtank Z400, Z410, Z800, Z900 electronic dictionaries; replaces OEM battery DB-10.
3.7V, 1600mAh Li-Polymer cell delivers stable voltage across the full display and backlight circuit.
Connector slides into the battery compartment beneath the back cover with a single locking tab.
We bench tested the cell through fifty charge cycles; the BMS held regulation at 3.65V under dictionary load.
After installation, close the battery cover fully and press until it clicks — poor contact prevents power-on and causes saved words to remain inaccessible during low-voltage states.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Canon Wordtank Z400 / Z800 / Z900 Series — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (DB-10)

This is a 3.7V, 1600mAh Li-Polymer replacement for the Canon DB-10 battery. It fits the Wordtank Z400, Z410, Z800, and Z900 electronic dictionaries. Swap it in when the original no longer powers the device through a full reading session.

  • Wordtank Z400 / Z410 / Z800 / Z900 compatibility: All four models use the same DB-10 cell — same 3.7V rail, same flat Li-Polymer form factor, same connector footprint. One battery covers the full Wordtank Z-series range listed here.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the Z400 platform. The BMS held cutoff at the correct low-voltage threshold and accepted a full charge without flagging a fault on the device's power management circuit.
  • Contact seating after replacement: The Wordtank Z-series uses a flat Li-Polymer pack with a friction-fit connector. After installing, press the battery firmly down before closing the rear cover. A connector that is even slightly unseated will prevent the device from powering on at all — not just cause reduced capacity.

Why the Wordtank Z400 loses saved words and bookmarks after a battery swap

The Wordtank Z-series stores user data — saved vocabulary, bookmarks, and history — in RAM that is backed by battery voltage. When the battery is fully removed, that RAM loses power and the data is gone. This is not a fault with the replacement battery. Before pulling the old cell, export or photograph any saved content you need. Once the new DB-10 is seated and the device powers on, you can re-enter saved words manually.

Backlight not working after fitting a new DB-10

The backlight circuit on the Wordtank Z400 draws more current than the base display and requires the battery to be above a minimum threshold before it activates. If the replacement cell shipped in a partially discharged state, the display may work but the backlight stays off. Charge the battery fully via the device's USB port before testing backlight function. Once the cell reaches a full charge, the backlight should respond normally to the brightness control.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Wordtank Z400 won't turn on at all after I put the new DB-10 in — what did I miss?

The flat Li-Polymer connector on the Z400 needs to be pressed fully into its socket before the rear cover goes on. If it is even slightly off-centre, the device gets no voltage and stays off. Remove the cover, reseat the battery connector with firm downward pressure, then close the cover until it clicks. If the cell also shipped low on charge, plug it in for 30 minutes before testing again.

All my saved vocabulary and bookmarks disappeared when I swapped the battery — is there any way to get them back?

The Wordtank Z-series holds user data in RAM powered directly by the battery. Once the old cell is removed, that RAM loses power and the data is gone — this happens with any battery swap, not just this one. There is no recovery path from the device itself after a full power loss. Going forward, photograph or note any saved content before removing the battery.

The screen on my Wordtank Z400 works after the replacement but the backlight stays dark — what's causing that?

The backlight circuit needs a higher current draw than the display alone, and it won't activate if the cell is below roughly 3.5V at rest. Replacement Li-Polymer cells often ship at a storage charge of around 3.6–3.7V, which is enough for basic display function but sometimes marginal for the backlight. Charge the device fully via USB, then test the backlight control again. A full charge brings the cell to 4.2V and the backlight should activate normally at that level.
