Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Cardo Packtalk Edge — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BAT00014)

This is a 3.7V 700mAh Li-Polymer replacement battery for the Cardo Packtalk Edge motorcycle Bluetooth communicator. It fits the Packtalk Edge directly, restoring power to the intercom, audio, and radio systems. Capacity matches the OEM spec at 700mAh (2.59Wh).

  • Packtalk Edge fit: The Packtalk Edge runs its DECT radio, Bluetooth audio, and DSP noise processing from a single 3.7V cell. This battery matches the OEM voltage rail and connector, and the BMS handshake completes normally on the Cardo charging dock without triggering a fault code.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on the Packtalk Edge platform. The BMS accepted the pack without error, and the protection circuit responded correctly to both low-voltage cutoff and charge termination thresholds.
  • First-cycle dock requirement: Seat the Packtalk Edge in its charging dock and run a complete charge before your first ride. The dock needs to log the new cell before the onboard firmware can report an accurate charge state — skipping this step causes the headset to show a full indicator that drops quickly under load.

Why the Packtalk Edge cuts out mid-transmission on a fresh battery

The Packtalk Edge pulls its heaviest current when the DECT radio transmits and the DSP processes audio simultaneously. On a cell that hasn't completed its first conditioning cycle, internal resistance is still elevated — voltage sags under that combined draw and can trip the BMS protection circuit before the cell is genuinely depleted. The headset goes silent even though the charge indicator showed capacity remaining. Running three to five full charge and discharge cycles brings internal resistance down and closes the gap between indicated and usable charge.

Charging dock shows full but headset shuts off after a short ride

A new Li-Polymer cell ships at storage voltage — typically around 3.8V — not at full charge. The Packtalk Edge firmware reads that voltage as near-full and displays a misleading indicator before the first complete dock cycle runs. The fix is straightforward: place the headset in the dock, let it charge uninterrupted until the dock light confirms completion, then discharge fully on a test call before recharging. After that first full cycle, the charge reporting stabilises at the correct 4.2V fully charged reference.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Packtalk Edge keeps cutting out mid-call even though the battery icon still shows charge — what's happening?

This is a voltage sag issue, not a capacity issue. The DECT radio and DSP audio processing draw peak current simultaneously during a transmission, and a new or degraded cell with elevated internal resistance drops below the BMS cutoff threshold under that combined load — even when the cell isn't empty. Run three to five full charge and discharge cycles on the new battery; internal resistance falls as the cell conditions and the cutouts stop. If it persists after five cycles, check that the dock contacts are clean and making firm contact with the headset.

The Packtalk Edge feels noticeably warm during long group rides — is that a battery problem?

Warmth during extended intercom sessions is expected but should stay mild. The Packtalk Edge packages a DECT radio, Bluetooth stack, and DSP into a very small housing with limited heat dissipation, and the 700mAh cell sustains that combined draw for extended periods. If the housing becomes hot to the touch rather than warm, the cell may be under stress from a partial short or a dock that isn't terminating charge correctly — remove it from the charger and let it cool before further use. Normal operating temperature at the housing surface stays well below 45°C.

The charging dock flashes an error light after I installed the new BAT00014 battery — how do I get it to recognise the pack?

The Packtalk Edge dock uses a BMS handshake to verify the cell before beginning a charge cycle, and a new pack at storage voltage can cause the dock to flag an unrecognised state on the first attempt. Remove the headset from the dock, wait ten seconds, then reseat it firmly — the spring contacts need full engagement to complete the handshake. If the error persists, clean the gold contacts on both the headset and dock base with a dry cloth and reseat again. A successful handshake shows as a steady amber charge light within thirty seconds of seating.
