  • ICBook M1 fitment: The BTY-S11 connector and BMS handshake are specific to the ICBook M1 platform. The cell voltage rail and pin layout match what the ICBook M1 charging circuit expects — no adapter or modification needed.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the ICBook M1 platform. The BMS communicated correctly with the system board, protection circuits triggered at the correct thresholds, and the cell accepted a full charge without cutoff errors.
  • Post-install calibration on the ICBook M1: After fitting this battery, run the cell down fully until the laptop hibernates, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle. Skipping this step often causes the system to report incorrect health or capacity readings immediately after the swap.

When a new cell is installed, the BIOS still holds EEPROM data from the old battery. That data includes cycle count and health metrics that no longer match the new cell. The system reads the stored values and flags the battery as degraded before a single cycle has run. One full discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% forces the BIOS to rewrite the battery learn cycle against the new cell and clears the false health warning.

This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's actual discharge curve. The gauge miscalculates remaining capacity and the system hits a low-voltage cutoff while the on-screen percentage still reads high. It is not a fault with the replacement cell — it resolves after two or three full discharge and charge cycles. Run the laptop on battery until it hibernates naturally, charge fully to 100%, and repeat twice to align the fuel gauge to the new cell chemistry.

Run one full discharge to hibernate-cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — this triggers the battery learn cycle and rewrites the EEPROM reference data against the new cell. After one complete cycle the percentage and status should read correctly.

The fuel gauge on the ICBook M1 jumps around wildly for the first few uses — is the battery faulty?

The fuel gauge IC calibrates itself against a cell's actual charge and discharge curve over the first few cycles. With a new cell installed, the curve data from the old battery is no longer accurate, so the gauge swings erratically until it re-learns the new profile. Run two to three full discharge-to-hibernate and full-charge cycles without interrupting them mid-way. By the third cycle the gauge reading stabilises to within a few percent.

System info shows the wrong Wh rating for the BTY-S11 replacement — should it read 48.84Wh?

The Wh figure displayed in system info is pulled from the EEPROM on the cell, which stores the rated value from the original battery's chemistry profile — not always a live measurement. A difference between what the system reports and the 48.84Wh specification on this cell is an EEPROM read, not a sign the cell is underspecified. Complete the battery learn cycle — full discharge to hibernate, full charge to 100% — and check system info again. Many BIOS versions update the displayed Wh figure after the learn cycle completes.
