  • X110 platform fit: The X110 uses a three-cell series configuration on the BTY-S11 connector. The BMS on this platform checks cell voltage balance at boot — a mismatched connector or wrong cell count causes the laptop to refuse charging entirely rather than charge slowly.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on an X110 unit. The BMS accepted the new cell without fault codes, and the fuel gauge IC began calibrating from the first full cycle.
  • First-cycle conditioning on the X110: After fitting this battery, run the laptop down to hibernate cutoff — not just sleep — then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap on this model.

BIOS reporting battery health as poor immediately after fitting the BTY-S11

The X110 BIOS reads health data from EEPROM embedded in the original cell. When a new cell goes in, that EEPROM data resets to factory state, and the BIOS interprets this as a degraded pack. This is a firmware behaviour, not a defect in the replacement cell. One full discharge-to-hibernate followed by a complete uninterrupted charge clears the flag. After two to three cycles, BIOS health reporting normalises.

This happens when the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old, degraded cell. The new cell holds voltage well into the lower charge range, but the gauge cuts the system before the cell actually depletes. The fix is calibration: run three full discharge-to-hibernate and full-charge cycles without interrupting mid-charge. After the third cycle, the gauge IC recalibrates its zero-voltage floor to match the new cell chemistry and the early shutdowns stop.

The fuel gauge IC on the X110 reads cell history from EEPROM — a new cell comes in with no recorded data, so the OS reports 0% or unknown until it builds a charge profile. This is not a fault with the battery or the laptop. Run one full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. The gauge will report correctly within two to three full cycles.

The X110 BIOS shows the wrong Wh rating after swapping to this battery — is the cell incorrect?

The Wh figure the BIOS displays is pulled from EEPROM on the old cell, not recalculated from the new one. The BTY-S11 replacement cell is rated at 48.84Wh, which is correct for this platform. Once the BIOS completes a battery learn cycle — one full discharge to hibernate, one full charge — it rewrites the Wh entry to match the new cell. Check System Information again after that cycle.

The X110 charges fine but the battery percentage jumps erratically — it reads 60%, then drops to 40% without any load change. What causes that?

The fuel gauge IC loses its calibration reference when the old cell is removed. Without a charge history on the new cell, the IC interpolates voltage curves incorrectly, producing large sudden jumps in the reported percentage. Run three full discharge-to-hibernate and full-charge cycles. Each cycle gives the IC more data points to map the new cell's voltage curve, and the percentage readings stabilise by the third cycle.
