This is a 10.8V, 2600mAh Li-ion battery for the Covidien Kendall SCD 700 sequential compression device. The SCD 700 is used for intermittent pneumatic compression therapy to prevent deep vein thrombosis in clinical and home settings. This cell replaces OEM part number 1030950 directly.

  • SCD 700 platform fit: The Kendall SCD 700 uses a dedicated 10.8V three-cell lithium-ion pack with a BMS that handshakes with the device charge controller at startup. Voltage and connector geometry must match exactly — the SCD 700 will reject packs outside its accepted voltage window during the power-on self-test.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through a full charge and load discharge on the SCD 700 platform. The BMS completed its verification sequence without fault, and the charge controller reached termination voltage correctly on the first cycle.
  • First-use self-test protocol: After installing this battery, allow the SCD 700 to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. Why the SCD 700 rejects a new battery during self-test

The SCD 700 BMS compares the new cell's impedance and open-circuit voltage against thresholds set for a conditioned OEM pack. A fresh cell often reads slightly outside those windows on the first boot. The device may log a battery fault or refuse to enter therapy mode. One complete charge-discharge cycle lowers internal impedance enough for the BMS to pass the cell on subsequent self-tests.

Charge indicator stalls below 100% on first charge

On a new cell, the SCD 700 charge IC applies a conservative current limit until it characterises the pack. This causes the on-screen charge indicator to stall — typically between 85% and 95% — for an extended period before jumping to full. The cell is still charging; the display is waiting for the IC to confirm the pack has met its termination criteria. Leave the device plugged in until the indicator reaches 100% and the charge LED changes state before disconnecting.

This triggers a low-battery alarm even though the cell is fully charged. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle — plug in until the charge indicator reaches 100%, then allow the device to run until it shuts off on its own. After that cycle, the BMS re-evaluates the cell and the alarm clears.

The SCD 700 won't power on at all after the battery sat unused for several months — is it dead?

Lithium-ion cells self-discharge during storage, and if the pack voltage has dropped below roughly 9V the SCD 700's BMS will block the turn-on sequence entirely as a protection measure. Connect the device to mains power and leave it charging for at least four hours before attempting to power on — the charge IC will apply a low-rate recovery charge to bring the cell back above the BMS recovery threshold. If the charge LED activates within the first few minutes of connection, recovery is underway.

The SCD 700 shut off unexpectedly mid-therapy after installing the new battery — why is this happening in the first few uses?

New lithium-ion cells have slightly elevated internal resistance in their first several cycles, which causes a sharper voltage drop under the compression pump load. The BMS interprets this sag as a low-voltage cutoff condition and shuts the device down to protect the cell. This behaviour reduces significantly after five to ten full charge-discharge cycles as internal resistance stabilises. Run the device through those conditioning cycles on mains power where possible, and monitor whether mid-therapy shutoffs stop occurring after cycle ten.
