Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

CrystalCall HME5170A Series — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (GP60AAAH2BMX)

This is a 2.4V, 700mAh Ni-MH replacement cell for the CrystalCall HME5170A and HME5170A-LTK pagers. It powers the receiver circuit, alert processing, and display functions. When the original cell can no longer hold a charge, this unit restores the pager to full operating condition.

  • HME5170A and HME5170A-LTK compatibility: Both models share the same battery bay, contact layout, and 2.4V supply rail. The BMS on each accepts the GP60AAAH2BMX cell without modification — no adapter or rewiring required.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the HME5170A platform. The BMS recognised the cell correctly, the low-battery threshold triggered at the expected voltage, and the receiver stayed active throughout the test window.
  • First boot after installation: Power cycle the pager once after fitting the new cell. Some HME5170A units need a fresh boot to re-register on the paging network and to reset the low-battery indicator to the correct voltage baseline for the new cell.

Why the HME5170A stops receiving alerts after a battery swap

The HME5170A receiver circuit can lose its network registration when power is fully interrupted during a cell swap. This is not a fault with the new cell — it is a software state issue. The pager needs to re-establish contact with the paging transmitter from a cold start. Power the unit off completely, wait five seconds, then power it back on and confirm the signal indicator returns.

Low battery indicator stays on immediately after fitting a new cell

Ni-MH cells ship at storage voltage, which sits below the pager's normal operating range. The HME5170A reads this as a low-battery condition and flags it on the display. This clears after the first full charge cycle once the cell reaches its nominal 2.4V operating level. Place the pager on charge immediately after installation and allow a complete cycle to finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

My HME5170A pager isn't receiving any alerts after I put in the new battery — what's wrong?

A full power interruption during a cell swap causes the HME5170A to drop its network registration. The pager needs to re-acquire the paging signal from scratch. Power it off, wait five seconds, then power it back on. The signal indicator should reappear within a minute once the receiver re-registers.

The new cell won't sit flat in the battery holder — one end keeps lifting off the contact.

The terminal spring in the HME5170A battery bay can compress over time from the previous cell's weight. When a new cell goes in, the spring no longer extends far enough to hold firm contact. Use a small flathead screwdriver to gently lever the spring outward by one to two millimetres, then reseat the cell. Both terminals should make solid contact and the pager should power on immediately.

My pager's battery is draining much faster than it used to on a full charge — is the new cell faulty?

Fast drain is almost always a network issue, not a cell defect. When the HME5170A is in an area of weak signal coverage, the receiver continuously boosts its search cycle, pulling significantly more current than normal standby draw. Move the pager to an area with a stronger signal and monitor the drain rate. If it normalises, the cell is fine — the issue is signal strength, not capacity.
