Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

DeLonghi Colombina XLR18LM — 18.5V Li-ion Replacement Battery (XLR18 / 5519210731)
This is an 18.5V, 2500mAh Li-ion battery pack for the DeLonghi Colombina cordless vacuum range, including the XLR18LM, XLR18LI, XLR18LM.BL, and XLR18LM.GR. It replaces the OEM pack when original capacity has dropped or the cell has failed entirely. The physical dimensions — 91.60 x 68.60 x 47.30mm — match the original battery bay on these models.
- Colombina XLR18 series compatibility: All Colombina XLR18 variants share the same 18.5V power rail and battery connector format. The BMS in each model communicates through the same contact arrangement, so the pack seats and handshakes the same way across the range.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through load testing on a Colombina unit under both light-surface and high-restriction conditions. The BMS held discharge cut-off correctly and did not trip falsely during normal suction loads.
- Dock charging habit on Colombina vacuums: Do not leave the vacuum sitting on the charging dock permanently. Colombina units on continuous dock charge develop capacity fade faster than those charged only when the battery is depleted. Charge fully, then remove from the dock.
Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low
This happens when the motor draws more current than the BMS expects under a restricted airflow condition — a partially blocked filter is the most common trigger. As resistance increases, the motor pulls harder, voltage sags under load, and the BMS throttles output before the indicator registers a low charge state. The indicator reads cell voltage at rest, not under load, so it lags behind what the motor actually experiences. Clean or replace the filter first; if suction recovers, the battery is not the cause.
Motor cutting out mid-clean and then recovering after a short pause
This is an overcurrent trip from the BMS, not a dead battery. When suction is restricted — blocked filter, jammed brush roll, or a sealed nozzle against a surface — the motor stalls momentarily, current spikes, and the BMS disconnects the output to protect the cells. After a short rest, the BMS resets and the vacuum starts again. Check the filter and brush roll for blockages before concluding the battery is at fault. If the motor cuts out on an unobstructed surface, measure pack voltage under load — it should hold above 16V during normal operation.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Colombina XLR18LM loses suction well before the battery light shows low — is this a battery problem?
Usually it isn't. A partially blocked filter forces the motor to work harder, which pulls more current and causes voltage to sag under load — but the indicator reads resting voltage, not loaded voltage, so it still shows adequate charge. Clean or replace the filter first. If suction returns to normal, the battery is fine; if sag persists on a clear filter, measure pack voltage under motor load — it should stay above 16V.
The vacuum cuts out after a minute of heavy use on carpet, then restarts fine after I wait — what's triggering that?
That's the BMS tripping on an overcurrent spike, not a failing battery. On thick carpet or when the nozzle seals against a surface, the motor stalls briefly, current surges past the BMS threshold, and it disconnects the output to protect the cells. Check the brush roll and filter for restriction. If the unit cuts out even with clear airflow and a clean filter, the original battery's cells may have degraded enough that sustained motor draw now exceeds the BMS trip point — a replacement pack resolves this.
The replacement battery doesn't seem to hold as much charge as the original did when it was new — capacity fading fast after just a few weeks.
Continuous dock charging is the most common cause. Colombina vacuums left on the dock between every use receive a low-level trickle that stresses lithium cells over time, accelerating capacity fade well beyond normal cycle wear. Charge the battery fully, then remove the vacuum from the dock and store it off-charge. Capacity should stabilise across subsequent charge cycles once the continuous-charge habit stops.
